Defenders being marked for theft !!! Look..

Maxyman, probably worth having a chat with your local community policing team. If you've been followed twice, and the string has been attached twice, then you've got grounds to ask them to help out. You might be able to persuade them to use your situation as bait in as sting.

Plucking up the courage... Head gasket and cambelt

2.5 N/A head gasket replacement - Land Rover Technical Archive - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum is pretty useful. Hotspots seems to be easy to ..ahem.. spot. But roll pins, not heard of those.

So, what was the sequence of events to get it there. How muck tinkering and fettling did it need?

    Changing suspension and suspension kits

Changing the bushes can be a pig of a job, but is possible. I drilled out the rubber on mine, then hack sawed out the sleeve. Pressed new genuine LR bushes in with a number 4 vice and some suitable drifts. Can be done quicker with a hydraulic press, and even quicker still with non-OE bushes...

Plucking up the courage... Head gasket and cambelt

So. timing belt completed last weekend. Turned out to be a relatively easy job. All the water pump bolts came out in one piece, the harmonic balancer just slipped off-probably because I'd already bought a puller just in case-and everything went back on ok. Forgot to put the washers on the...

Finding TDC with the wrong flywheel

Yes, nearly. It's about 10cm out. I can see the hole/slot for the pin whizz past when rotating the crank, but it stops about 10cm past the timing pointer cover. Otherwise, timing marks, and fuel pump are all lined up.

Finding TDC with the wrong flywheel

Ah. should have thought of that before I put the cover back on. I guess the timing marks on the pulleys would have given me the right spot.

Measure the distance between? The crank position?

Possibly, but doesn't sound that accurate.

Finding TDC with the wrong flywheel

So here's a challenge. I was changing the timing belt on my 12J 2.5 NAD at the weekend. I'd already bought the timing pointer for the flywheel window - as I'd seen the flywheel window and have no bottom plug hole. But, when turning the crank to fit the timing pointer, I noticed the flywheel...

    Head Gasket Problem

This might sound daft, but is the gasket the right way up? Upside down and you'll get water all over the place, found that out the hard way with a mate's 90.

    Security Devices

I see where you're going. Probably do the same for 20 quid off ebay. This is the reason the steering is so important, i.e. leaving steering on full lock, protected by a disklok or similar.

TD5 jerking at very slow speed...throttle?

I had this in a 99 TD5 Disco 2, it went back to a main LR Stealer many times to try and get to the bottom of the problem - they never did. In the end I just learned to live with it by adjusting my throttle foot in traffic and low speeds. Not helpful, but I've been there.

    Great security mod and cheap.

Don't panic, they already know. When thieving things is your day job, you do your best to know what your up against, and believe you me they know ALL the tricks in the book. Not sharing information like this is a much bigger risk than sharing it. It's only by sharing and discussing these...
