Thanks for your comment, but I tried all that stuff, The locking system I'm familiar with, I also own a Jeep, and that's standard on most US cars, I agther, has been for more than ten years. Tha problem was the rear lock, and WD40 seems to have cured it. gdb

Bloody good idea, but I had managed to lock the 18 year old son in the car while he attempted to open the lock from the inside, and then I wandered off leaving him in there, in the sun. for about ten minutes, It was only 25C, so it didn't hurt him, but the frantic hooting of the horn caused...

For the record, I prised off the logo, sprayed the lock and it seems to work. Thanks again. I thought it might have been an electrical fault. I'm still trying to work out for the manual what superlocking is, and if that caused the problem. God save WD40. gdb

Thanks Bazza, I will go and find the WD 40 now! The car has been on a farm here in France for a few months, and I don't think the previous owner (an Australian) ever opened the rear doors or the tailgate. I've only had the car a month, and I keep finding deposits of mud in odd places...
