    Freelander 1 Side Bar Fitting

Hmmm strange one. Checked the size of the current rivnuts and they are m6. Ordered some, but they are too small for the existing holes. Do you get different size rivnuts that take an m6 Bolt?

    Freelander 1 Side Bar Fitting

Righty, just had a look under and the existing rivnuts dont look to be in a good shape at all - looks like I am going to have to drill the old ones out and replace them all -

    Freelander 1 Side Bar Fitting

Is it any particular grade Rivnut does anyone know? Amazon do rivnut packs for about £12ish - question is though, am I better with zinc or carbon steel?

    Freelander 1 Side Bar Fitting

Cheers, thats what I thought - I can sort of work out how the u-bolts worked, but can I hell as work out how the fittings that go into the sill were suppose to fit! there are no instructions, just a single exploded diagram with part numbers, but it is the poorest quality ever! thankfully the...

    Freelander 1 Side Bar Fitting

Had a look under the car earlier to see what was involved in fitting the side bars I bought (came with the worlds worst instructions - I am having to guess as I go - I will take a pic tomorrow night and stick them up on here) But I have come across an issue. It appears that at some point in the...

What have you done to your Freelander today

On the freelander today I have fitted new wheel centre hub caps and a tmps. Spent last night changing the damn heater blower on my Astra. Much prefer doing stuff on the freelander though. Going to start fitting the side bars later, but there will be questions about that in another thread!

    Freelander 1 Ebay Service Kits

Anyone tried the service kits they sell on ebay, complete set of filters and oil for £50. Only problem I see is that they come with 5/30 oil. I thought these were 5/40 or 10/40? or is 5/30 ok in these?

    Freelander 1 Livid...

Got the wheel back yesterday, got my mechanic neighbour to pick it up and fit it so he could check the wheel and the wheel arch etc for damage, and thankfully everything is ok. Drove her into work this morning and drives absolutely fine. Been so lucky with this as the outcome could have been a...

Cool, I am pleased about that. Yeah the other 3 wheels were definitely on the ground haha. Cheers for your help people. I will do this as a regular thing and watch the vcu next time as well. I might even recordy results in a spreadsheet so I can graph them over time.

    VCU Torque test results

Yeah it was on the centre hub. Never thought to check the vcu turning, but I presume it must be if the wheel was turning? Only reason I chose 6kg is because I had a 6kg kettle bell handy. Do I need to do it again and make sure the vcu is turning? Or if the wheel turned like that can I presume...

Nah, the car is parked on the drive and isn't going anywhere until I get the proper tyre back on. Was only moving it earlier so I could spin it round to do the vcu test. The proper tyre will be back on tomorrow night.

Well I did the test and it looks ok to me, providing I haven't done anything wrong. I have posted a video and my findings on the VCU sticky thread. Took about 35 seconds to go from 45 degrees to 0, using a 6kg weight at 1.2m. Hoping that means my VCU is ok.

    VCU Torque test results

Just did the wheel up test, 1.2m bar, 6kg weight and it was about 35 to 40 seconds to go from 45 to 0, does this mean my VCU is ok? I did this in first gear. I have posted a video on youtube Would one of you fantastic people out there have a look and give me your thoughts please - just in...

I was supposed to be heading to eyemouth to see the mother in law, so pleased it went on the way home from the tyre place and not on the way up there. Just had a quick look underneath and all seems fine, Will have a proper look later. Drove it round the block as well and it seems fine. On...

Just wondering... If I have two new tyres on the back, and the spare and a new tyre on the front, am I likely to do any damage driving it like this? Or am I best waiting for the new tyre to be fitted on the front before I take her out again?
