Thanks for all the help and advice. I've put it back together, now, and only have the priming left to do. (see other thread). Wish me luck. Cheers

    Diesel Priming

Probably been talked to death, but I remember reading that someone suggested putting the old girl in 2nd or 3rd and being towed by a sympathetic friend. Does that really work? If so, how much bleeding do you need to do before starting the tow? (I've just given mine a birthday. All filters...

    Diesel distributor pump filter

From the drawing I thought the longer bit of the plug (11) went into the spring (13). Is that what you mean?? You speak from experience, or just looking at the drawing? Washer is in my parts tub ;)

    Diesel distributor pump filter

Hmmm thanks for the words of caution, but I'm only cleaning the filter, not resetting any timing or owt. Wasn't too hard to get out, and should have been easy to get back in if I hadn't fumbled the bits. I've uploaded a picture of what I'm on about, as the drawing isn't too clear. The...

    Diesel distributor pump filter

I've been giving the Landie the once over and read somewhere that there is a filter on the inlet side of the distributor fuel pump. So, I removed it to give it a clean and now I can't remember which way it goes back together  I will post a pic later of the bits that came out (filter...

    Fairey Overdrive Leak

OK, thanks for that. So it looks like I have to remove the overdrive to do it, unless I can stand the old girl on her bumper?

    Fairey Overdrive Leak

Any Fairey specialists that might be able to help out? It looks like (from the drawing) that the shaft can be pulled out without loosening anything, but.......

    Fairey Overdrive Leak

I have a bit of a leak from my over drive.....surprise surprise. Seems to be coming from the layshaft O ring at the back of the unit (according to the drawing). Can the shaft be pulled out slightly to allow changing in place? Cheers

    Disco 1 wheels

Just wondered if anyone is using these wheels on a Series. If so, any pics you could upload to give us an idea of how they look as I'm thinking of making a change from my bitsa wheels. Cheers

    Engine thermosat

Hi again. I've got a bit of spare time, so working my way through the job list :) So, do you mean that I fit the orifice instead of the thermostat? How do I tell which thermostat is correct for my motor? Cheers

    Engine thermosat

Another problem, err I mean challenge. My 2.25 (1979) diesel is running hot according to the temperature gauge. It doesn't smell hot, but I'd like to make sure everything is OK. I read somewhere that there are different thermostats, and I wondering which one I should have fitted (as...

    Can't engage low range

I've put some grease in the caps and used a bit of liquid gasket when replacing the cap. There was a lot of rusty smeg in cap, so looks like it's let a little water in during its life. Thanks again, well and truly appreciated.

    Can't engage low range

Maaaate.......you've fixed it! It's mended! It will now do all the push, pull, up and downs as expected. A huge thanyou from down under. I'm having a beer for you, but ther's one in the fridge if you're ever in the area. Cheers!

    Can't engage low range

Sorry, mate, still not getting this. I'm in 4 wheel drive now, with the pin removed. Which is the same as pushing down on the yellow knob, right? Sooooo....if I pull back on red then the 4 wheel drive shaft should go rearwards as well and then allow the pin to drop into the hole. Is...

    Can't engage low range

OK, got it. But......what should I see happen with the exposed selector shafts? When I pull the red back, the 4wd drive shaft doesn't move. I've removed the yellow linkage. (I'm in 4 wheel drive now) Think I need to take the 'box adrift??

    Can't engage low range

OK, shafts free.....I think. Now, I'm not quite sure what the sequence of events should be. When you push the yellow knob, the pin lifts and the 4 wheel drive shaft springs forward engaging the front prop? When you pull back the red this pulls back the 4 wheel drive shaft and the yellow...
