I took out the original Alpine stereo and put an new one in. All is working fine except that the volume is very quickly very loud (up to 4 and the speakers pop out of the doors). Is there anyway of adjusting the volume on the amplifier?

Alternator has been replaced yesterday, what a pig of a job. LOL I will try another belt as that is cheap and easy. I was contemplating on a new water pump, I have no idea when it was replaced last. with which interval do they need to be replaced?

I can get the noise properly recorded but my alternator decided to stop working yesterday. So I started the engine without the belt and pronto the noise was gone. How do I proceed to find what is causing the noise? I have a hunch that the belt might be a but too tight. I felt all the pully's...

Yes I do but the sound comes on also when I don't. It is with driving and standing still. Didn't get the time to do the bet this weekend Grrrr

I am not sure it is the DMF (I learned Sierraferry ;-) ) because it isn't a rattle, more something rubbing.

Cheers, will get the belt off first as I have had the ACE pump dying on me a while ago (it burned out as it had no oil). I did also put in a new tensioner in not so long ago. So I really want to rule that all out indeed.

Thanks, but the car does it while standing still. What is all moving when the gear is in neutral? Noise in the clutch bearing should change with engagement of the clutch I think?

Thanks for the very quick reply; OK tried it there, the clutch has no influence. The sound starts around 1000rpm and above 2000rpm I don't hear it but it might just blend in with the normal engine noise.

Did you try a bump start? Did that work?
