i must admit it looked like a bodge , ive got it working by locktighting a nut in place on the thread after it passes through the hole.

No, the lower part hasn't got a thread, it passes through a hole and has a nut behind it, should it be threaded ? i

It was indeed the linkage, a nut had come of the back of the short arm which connects to the transfer box arm, I now can use both boxes at will, thanks for all of the advice and help offered. :D

YD i didn't get chance to get down there yesterday due to a rteally busy night at work and some landrover troubles of my own in the main, however i know there is an old compressor down there i am not sure if it is single phase or three but as long as there is no rush sit tight and i will...

Im with CharlesY. I have had a quick look from underneath while somebody else moved it and there is no movement at the transfer box but there is on the linkage from the transfer gearstick. thanks for all the advice folk, im going in from the top, wish me luck. ( and not to many breakdowns...

I had a similar problem a while back, in the end i was advised to download a program called registry mechanic, cost £20 but well worth, it found 4000+ problems in my registry and my computer is like a new machine. I have had no problems since.

Thank for the reply Grunt, yes i have tried that, tried bouncing it up and down a few kerbs as well with no joy. I guess its time to learn about the transfer box ;-)

Morning, i got a copy of the Rave CD's from this site ( fantastic ) i had a look through and found out how to use the transfer gearbox, the problem i have is that i have put it into low box for the first time since i bought it 2 months ago and it wont come out. I suspect it has just stuck in...

I downloaded the rave cd's but they cover newer landrovers than my old tractor, is there a rave cd available that covers a 1992 Defender 90 200 tdi ?
