It was indeed the linkage, a nut had come of the back of the short arm which connects to the transfer box arm, I now can use both boxes at will, thanks for all of the advice and help offered. :D

I have had a quick look from underneath while somebody else moved it and there is no movement at the transfer box but there is on the linkage from the transfer gearstick.

I had a similar problem a while back, in the end i was advised to download a program called registry mechanic, cost £20 but well worth, it found 4000+ problems in my registry and my computer is like a new machine. I have had no problems since.
Thank for the reply Grunt, yes i have tried that, tried bouncing it up and down a few kerbs as well with no joy. I guess its time to learn about the transfer box ;-)

i got a copy of the Rave CD's from this site ( fantastic ) i had a look through and found out how to use the transfer gearbox, the problem i have is that i have put it into low box for the first time since i bought it 2 months ago and it wont come out. I suspect it has just stuck in...
I have seen a lot of advice over the last wee while, however quite simply run over the next person that calls it pretty and see what they think then ? i am sure they will find it quite hard !
