Just swapping the truck cab roof for a hard top I have lying around, I have replaced the seals around the base of the hard top where it goes onto the tub, but can't recall if there is supposed to be a seal of any description at the front. I have vague recollections of having such a seal but...

Depends on whether it has inertia reels fitted I guess. The newest I have is a 1981 (I think) and these still have the static belts attached to achorages on the top of the rear tub.

why don't you just buy exhaust pieces, including manifold pieces and weld them together? They are available in stainless, do you know anyone who welds stainless? costs about 200 for a system.
