    Warning lights during braking

Not sure if the ABS/TC/HDC lights would be a fail but I hope to have it sorted by then anyway.

    Warning lights during braking

OK sounds like a definite possibility then. Hopefully it will just be the yellow connectors but the rotary coupling wouldn't be the end of the world! Need to sort that as it's an MOT fail (its due in June)

    Warning lights during braking

I read that if it's the rotary coupling then the horn won't work - is that right? I've not actually tested that yet. The steering wheel audio controls work fine.

    Warning lights during braking

Oops I meant chipped yeh - auto-correct! I've found the sunroof guide so not too worried there. I'll search on the the amigos - I've seen the term already but it wasn't specific to an issue caused by breaking. Maybe the fluid is just low or something, that would be a nice easy fix ;-) Yep...

    Warning lights during braking

Just bought myself a 2001 Disco 2 and am putting together a list of things to fix. There are two things that concern me about the electrics: 1) SRS warning light comes on intermittently during driving and stays on until restarting engine. I'm hoping it's just a loose yellow connector. 2) Under...

    Buying defender with 2" lift

I would definitely have paid that for one with a solid chassis. Almost anything can be fixed relatively cheaply except a badly rotten chassis. If I had the space I would buy a cheapo one like you and a brand new galvanised chassis, and basically rebuild it to last decades.

    Buying defender with 2" lift

Yeah they're coming up all the time. For a bargain I think it would need to be a private sale rather than a dealer, and to get a good one would really need to move fast as soon as it came on the market. My main worry was buying something that appeared good but went bang within a week or...

    Buying defender with 2" lift

Update: I went to see the defender (and several others) but didn't buy it as it was extremely rotten underneath. Screwdriver found holes everywhere - even the rear cross member which had supposedly been replaced....maybe it had about 7 years ago! Mechanically it seemed OK apart from quite a lot...

    Buying defender with 2" lift

I really only wanted a Tdi upgrade fitting as it's a bit much for me to take on myself at this time. The problem with the ones he has that are unmodified but have turbos is that for some reason insurance seems to be more than double - maybe they are just new enough to no longer qualify for...

    Buying defender with 2" lift

I'd prefer on-road handling ability I think - but until I test drive it I won't know how much it bothers me, if at all. Unless it looks horribly bad I'll probably get it - its a fairly cheap (£3200) defender 90 that seems in good nick. Its on autotrader here: Land Rover 90 2.5D County SUV 4WD...

    Buying defender with 2" lift

I've not owned one before nope. I've trawled this forum and youtube/the internet in general for defender buying guides - theres quite a lot of info so I'm lucky there I guess. Found quite a good PDF checklist somewhere and I'll probably change that a little and take a printout with me for the...

    Buying defender with 2" lift

I've not seen it yet - I'll be giving it a good inspection when I get there and was wondering what kind of stuff related to this lift kit to look for. From the pictures it looks like its been well taken care of but it is a 1984 (!!) model. Its had a 200tdi dropped in as well which made it appeal...

    Buying defender with 2" lift

Yeah I might go down this route if it is just simple springs/shocks and no other parts to change. It would be a fairly easy first modification to get me familiar with DIY landy mechanics :) Would the brake lines need changing to shorter ones again or would they be ok as the longer ones?

    Buying defender with 2" lift

Thinking of buying a defender - the one I'm looking at has a 2" lift. Would rather it didn't tbh, going to be using it more on-road than off-road and wouldn't want to compromise the handling, but everything else looks good so I'm still interested. What should I be looking for to check this...

    300 tdi vs td5

Haha well it was extremely noisy and felt quite on edge, but we were doing 80-85 all the motorway bits from manchester to the north of scotland, and we've done that a few times. And I was sitting in the back row seats! The landy was always in really good condition before the trip. The difference...

    V.A.T on used vehicles

Also worth mentioning that (if my understanding is correct) you need a business van insurance policy if you get one that is registered as a van. You can't use a normal private policy unless you strictly only use it for social, domestic and pleasure (NOT commuting! I was surprised at this. So if...

    V.A.T on used vehicles

These are the three scenarios I can think of: Private selling to private buyer: No VAT, its already been paid, plus you only pay VAT if you're a registered business with more than 75k turnover. Dealer selling a previously commercial vehicle (VAT never paid on it) to private buyer: VAT payable...

Nice one, thanks for the advice. I'll keep my eye on gumtree/ebay for some bargains.

    300 tdi vs td5

My mate has a TD5 110 and we get up to 80-85 on the motorway. Mpg not amazing at those speeds, about 25ish iirc, but ive heard tdi's aren't as good after you get past 55-60. No experience with TDIs though.

    Welding advice

That's what I'm looking for yep, wanna be able to drive it for a while and for nothing major to need fixing until I build some experience. I've seen a few for around £3250 that make me interested. Will see what's available when I have the funds. With the 180A MIG, is that on to run on...
