If belts aint been fitted by the factory then the is no problem with the insurance or old bill (my 1968 merc didn't have back seat belts). The recent laws on booster seats can only be enforced where practical so if you have 3 kids and a small car you aint going to get booster/child seats along...

4pmh slower than the indicated speed does not sound like a problem with the speedo, just the manufacture maing sure that there is no comeback on them when you are cought speeding.

I would imagine it depends on the gearing of the speedo compared to the gearing of the numbers.

By law speedos are not allowed to indicate a speed slower than you are actually traveling. This means that manufactures ensure the speedo reads slower and the faster you go the bigger the differance (usually).

The down bars clamp to the gutter and the bottom require drilling. The left one was easy but doing the right one I managed to get my arm stuck in the bumper. Twice:mad:

I have a disco I drive daily. I have a land rover bike rack that is a bit different form the normal ones as once fitted it hinges away from the car allowing the bikes to stay locked to the car but also gain access to the boot (I bought off ebay for £50 and have seen a couple more this year)...

I had a similar noise that went from being a high pitched whistle to a gushing blowing whistle. I also started to loose power on the motorway but was OK around town at low speeds. Turned out to be a split turbo hose, £37 later and the problem was fixed.

If the battery was not charging properly then starting would become difficult. Now that you have change the alternator (and the battery?) does it now start OK?

5000 rpm? I can only just break into the 3000 zone.....
