    Replacing leaf springs

I just had a chat with the chap there. He sounds like a decent guy so I'll get a set ordered next week (pay day). Looking forward to it!

    Replacing leaf springs

The Rocky Mountain kit looks awesome! Not a bad price either considering. Could be the answer. I don't want to raise it up sky high but a couple of inches higher to allow bigger wheels and tyres would be good.

    Replacing leaf springs

I'll leave the Defenders for the time being. After reading this morning on coil conversions it sounds like a lot of work so back to the parabolics! I was planning on ordering a few bits from Paddocks but their parabolics are made by GME.

    Replacing leaf springs

Mainly off road use but there will be the odd bit of towing on roads too. My other thought would be a full coil conversion. I haven't priced that up yet though.

    Replacing leaf springs

Hi all, My restoration is coming quite nicely now. I am looking at replacing the leaf springs and a friend of mine suggested I go for parabolic springs to give it a bit more lift. Is this correct and will I need to replace anything else if these springs do give more lift? Cheers Will

    Restoration has begun - slowly!

Thicker materiel for the footwells may be a good shout. I was going to replace mine and plate them on top for added durability. Nearly ready to replace mine but not quite. Still working on the chassis at the moment.

Thanks for the links, I shall be requiring those! I'll put a footwell plate in there too for more durability. I'll see if I can find the workshop manual I downloaded once. That'll help us all with putting them back together. I need to replace pretty much all the nuts and bolts I have taken out...

I'll have a look at the other thread, it's the bulkhead that's worrying me a little! Do get a thread up Rubins, would be good to see another similar to mine and how you took the front apart. I'm stopping here at the moment on the strip down and I'm going to clean, repair and paint the chassis...

    Restoration has begun - slowly!

I haven't yet, I shall do now you've said that though! Here are the pictures for everyone and a couple more questions! Do I need to do anything to the gearbox apart from clean it? A couple of bits to sort on the chassis. Does the bulkhead look salvageable or do I...

    Restoration has begun - slowly!

Hi all, Thought I'd update my progress with the Series 3. With the help of a couple of friends yesteday we finally got it stripped to the chassis. The bulkhead and front fenders are the next challenge. The chassis has 3 places that need welding which is pretty good going I thought. The bulkhead...

    Restoration has begun - slowly!

I'll have to check this evening. I thought there are 2 in each of the rear arches that attach the tub to the chassis? I could be wrong!

    Restoration has begun - slowly!

I've got those ones off, using an angle grinder! The main ones I'm having problems with are in the rear wheel arches, 2 either side. 1 is stripped and the others won't budge!

    Restoration has begun - slowly!

Hi all, I'm having some serious troubles getting the tub off my Landy. The bolts are all stuck fast and there isn't enough room to get an angle grinder in there to chop them off. Has anyone got any tips? How many bolts are there to remove the tub? If anyone fancies lending a hand one...

    Convert hard top to canvas

Thanks for the replies. The YouTube video is exactly what I want to do! I'm not looking for the bikini hood really, I think they look a bit funny and with the lovely British summer we're having... £60 is quite a tempting price though!

    Convert hard top to canvas

Has anyone converted their Series 3 to a canvas back? Where did you get all of the parts from to convert it if so? Easy job? Cheers Will

Is a Defender wider than a Series 3?

I'm a 6ft 4" rugby player so not the smallest of people! I think the Series 3 is/was a farm Landy. I'm not really sure how to tell? The steering wheel is big when compared to say a Fiesta. I do find my leg jammed between the wheel and door. I have removed the rear seat cushion and it is a lot...

Is a Defender wider than a Series 3?

Is there a medication that can be done by removing the rear bulkhead that still keeps the rigidity?

Is a Defender wider than a Series 3?

Haha! Flinstone style?! It's my legs that get in the way with the steering wheel!

May have to call in at Land Rover on my way home one day and sit in one!
