It's been a while since I did this but if memory serves me correctly the wire is made of braided stainless steel (or maybe aluminium). It connects to the bottom of the interior button and even had a threaded adjuster. All I did was shorten the wire by a few millimetres and the locks all started...

I had this problem on a previous 300Tdi Discovery. Inside the door there is a small wire that links the lock motor to the interior button. This appears to stretch over time but can be adjusted quite simply. No need to remove the glass but you do need to get the door card out. HTH

Not as far as I know ~ they don't need one. EGR systems were introduced to reduce particulate emissions from (specifically) diesels. Of course, if I'm wrong someone will put that right :) HTH SteveG
