    few problems help pls

Can we just clarify something here? You say the fuses are okay but there is a dead short in the system ~ two statements that are incompatible. If the fuses are okay then there can't be a short circuit. The most likely common point for the light circuits is the switch on the stalk. The fuses for...

    Battey Draining ?

I like the practical approach :) Just to say, however, that it's safer to disconnect the negative terminal and connect the lamp/buzzer to that side of the battery. You get the same result from your tests ~ the current flowing in a circuit is the same wherever you measure it.

    manifold cooking

No need to puncture the cans simply put a couple of dents in the side. When you hear the dents pop it's lunch time :D ... but be quick or there will be an explosion  Also, be careful when opening the tin 'cos baked bean juice under pressure is a wicked liquid to get in your eyes

    manifold cooking

We used to do it all the time in the Army and I've done it once or twice with the Discovery. Wrap the food in a couple of layers of tin foil and secure it to the manifold whilst driving. About 30mins later it will be piping hot. Remember to use some gloves when handling the tin foil ~ it gets...

    greenlaning north wales sunday

I'd love to join you but SWMBO insists that I finish polishing out the scratches from Salisbury plain last weekend before I can come out to play again. Personally, I don't see the point as it's only gonna get all scratched up again innit

    Is this right?

Most councils keep the definitive map and list of streets at their offices so they can easily be modified and referred to. Around here you have to make an appointment to go view them and it's a good idea to take your OS maps with you so that you can mark them up whilst your there. If the local...

    Is this right?

Send a complaint in writing to the RoW manager at the county council simply stating that the BOAT is blocked (you need to give the grid reference of the blockage) and ask when they plan to move the obstruction. Don't give them any clue that you're not sure of the byway's status ~ they'll just...

    centre console getting hot.

This was also a consensus opinion amongst older BMW 7 series owners ~ same gearbox ~ and a complete empty/flush/refill of the gearbox was definitely not recommended. The suggestion there was to partially drain the oil and top up more frequently rather than drain completely.

    my first problem!!

If it thinks there's no cassette in the changer then you may have unseated it slightly. Try pushing it fully back into place again. If that works and the cassette is now "seen" then try selecting a different disc on the head unit. This might get the stuck one back into place and enable you to...

    Bleedin Lights!!

Had a similar problem recently with one head light being severely dimmer than the other on both dip and main beam. I checked the voltage at the lighting connector and was only getting about 5V to either filamen. Traced the fault to the earth stud welded to the inner wing which came off...

    300tdi Alternator

Any half decent auto electrician or motor factors (i.e. NOT Halfords) should be able to get one for you. Cheap as chips compared to a new alternator :)

245/75's are okay but get Kwik-Fit to check they don't rub on anything when you're at full steering lock. There's a bolt on each hub you can adjust to prevent rubbing but if you have to adjust it then you'll increase your turning circle a bit. Also, be aware that as the new tyres have a bigger...

    diesel consumption 2.5tdi?

I used to get 15/16 around town and 17/18 at motorway speeds from the V8 without much noticeable difference between petrol and LPG. To my mind there's not much difference between 16 and 21 compared with my Xantia which does 40 around town and 50+ on the motorway. I do drive "spiritedly" but...

I thought we had met once, but I am probably wrong .. it's not unusual. I haven't been out in this one yet ... can't get the transfer lever to work  but my tame mechanic is gonna sort it when he replaces the rear crankshaft oil seal for me in a couple of weeks time. Then it'll be ready...
