The crankshaft seal or dust cap on the front of the engine is twisted. Can I remove it and re-install a new one from the outside or do I need to remove the front cover of the engine??? Engine 4.4 petrol BMW M62tu vanos. I can supply a picture if that helps.

After reading the besian vanos repair. I'm peering into the vanos the outer teflon ring is green. Is that factory original hasn't been updated? It says the vanos needs to be pressed so metal pinches up against the plastic and does not rotate. One can fit the tip of the engineer pick the other...

when removing input throttle body I could see fresh clean grease along the seam of the cyclnder head. Someone has had the cylinder heads off and I don't think it has been driven since then. Which is why there was no steering fluid.

I was able to see impact marks of the valves in the carbon on the piston heads. When I looked a 5-8 cyclnders.

I pulled it out a month ago to look for chain rails. There was no metallic shimmer back then. But someone had definitely been there before me. So they may have cleaned the signs away. I'll check the other 5 cylinders tomorrow. What are my options?

Okay I stopped after 3 Pistons. #3 = 93psi #2 = 70psi #1 = 20psi I scoped #1 and I think I could see scoring. Now what do I do? Need to consider cost of?
