What's the bestestest wiper blades to get?

I use the full set Halfords sell for my Rover 75, replace them around Christmas each year, no worries and relatively cheap, about half the price of the Bosch ones :)

Help How do I remove the Viscous coupling bearing

Take a look at the how to in the Freelander section of the forum, some very nice photos courtesy of Hippo :) You can either use a hammer and chisel method, by knocking the center of the bearing off the shaft, or cut the outer away (it's rubber mounted) and use a bearing puller...

    Freelander Remap

If it's a diesel, when did anyone last clean out the EGR? Before you spend any money at all, it's worth taking that off and spending half an hour cleaning out thoroughly, it's also worth checking out the MAF. With a clean EGR, or a bypass, and the PCV update mentioned above you may have...

    will this fail an MOT?

All the dashboard lights are supposed to work s described, if I understand the new regs correctly. If I'm right you'll get a pass on the 9th March, with an advisory for next year, if I'm wrong you'll get a pass and no advisory for next year. Make sure you do get it tested before April 1st...

    Grinding/vibrating noise when turning right

That's not just true for work on cars, my best mate saved himself £5k when he had an extension built, by supplying the materials, the builders weren't too happy when asked for quotes splitting out the labour and the materials, took him a while to find one who would actually do it :) The...

What was the outcome on this 2002 story?

That ^^ sounds like the sort of reccords I remember being told to make. It could also be worthwhile noting down things like holidays, anything that changes the mileage / usage pattern, just in case :) The other thing I've just remembered, make sure anything bought for cooking use is also...

Refitted the VCU and propshafts today :)

When I got back under the car yesterdady the rear bearing was about 8mm out of square, the front about half that, loosened the bolts, tapped with a hammer and punch, now nicely in line according to the rule and set square :) That and tightening up two slightly loose fasteners on the prop flange...

    Grinding/vibrating noise when turning right

:( Getting dirty is half the fun :) I'm not keen on the cold bit though, and cold & wet is right out :( Best of luck with the garage.

What was the outcome on this 2002 story?

I do know that a lot of folk ended up in court, convicted and fined for this, at one point it looked like half of Merthyr were being done!! I also have an idea about the 2,500 litres, but can't find a reference, if you try it you'll need to keep VERY VERY good records in order to prove you...

Refitted the VCU and propshafts today :)

You know where theh recon VCU is fromm then? :D :D Cheers for the service sir. The bearings appear to be OK, they were sold to me, along with the prop shafts, as havinng been replaced and they do feel nice and smooth. I know a bit about rubber (a speciality of my current employer) and the...

    Ticking not starting

Flat battery? Do you have a voltmeter? If so you really want to see close to 13.5 volts from a decently charged battery. Less could indicate a cell problem. The clicking could be the starter solenoid pulling in and dropping out. I'm not sure if you'll get any warning from the car...

    won't start :-(

From what I've read on the MG-Rover site they can be refurbishedn but no one has posted a detailed how that I can find. They have the same problem getting injectors out as Freelander owners (I ran a search to see if I ad two lots of trouble..), the general advice being to spray some PlusGas...

So, Kwik Fit it is then :)

    smoke

What mileage has your car done? The MAF will start to go off between 35,000 and 70,000 miles, the ronbox can compensate for a dodgy one, but not for a totally knackered one. The pierburgh MAF and synergy are a cost effecctive option when you look at how mucha genuine Bosch MAF is, the...

Anyone need an oil change or diagnostic?

Hope so, it's on the to do list, we've no idea when the oil was last changed, so it needs doing before the car does many more miles :)

    won't start :-(

Nasty :( The Haynes doesn't even refer to removing the injectors before taking the cam cover off, that's one of the things that had me confused as to why the big bill. Another learning day, thank you :)

Anyone need an oil change or diagnostic?

£130 for an oil and filter change??? :( I'll be doing the oil and filters for the wife as well then!!

    won't start :-(

Looking at the procedure for removing injectors in the aynes manual it shouldn't be that difficult. What goes wrong, that's not obvious from the manual, to cause a £2,500 bill?

Do you regret buying a Freelander?

I should regret it but don't :D If I'd not found this place I probably would regret allowing the wife to get one, but with the support on here I'm pretty happy that we'll have a long and happy relationship (me and the FL that is) and might even replace my Rover 75 with one in a year or two...

Refitted the VCU and propshafts today :)

I really don't like using concrete, unless it's pukka stuff, I've seen breeze blocks collapse under the load of a car. The guy under it at the time got out, but only by moving rather quickly. I put a couple of bits of 4 x 3 on top of the axles stands today, that gave me some decent wiggling...
