Stripped nut - how do I save my shock?

Agreed, I have found wrong torque figures in Haynes manuals for Defender and also suffered a double hernia after trying to remove a clutch from a Metro using a puller when Haynes did not mention that you had to remove a large washer before winding up the puller.

Pin hole leak in fuel tank

I'm no better than you at soldering but I successfully filled a load of holes on the top of an Escort van diesel tank. There's a pressed depression on the top of the tank that's intended to stiffen the top panel but it tends to hold water and dirt so it's no wonder the tank rusts. I emptied my...

What security did they manage to bypass ? I presume you did not hear the alarm sounding.

Defender 90 Pickup stolen from Birmingham

Sorry to hear of your loss and I hope it turns up soon. What area was it taken from ? I'm in Brum and forever checking on my own Landie even though Iv'e added loads of security.

    Waiting for HUE166

Yes, I buy LRO International as well. I cut out the workshop articles from both mags that relate to my type of Defender and keep them in clear plastic sleeves in a big ring binder. I use it as a reference aid in addition to my workshop manual as it often gives more detailed views that are...

    Waiting for HUE166

Know what you mean, there's a lot in them that I don't read but I'm looking out to buy a galvanised 300Tdi at the moment and they appear in the mags every now and then.

    Possible stolen Series in Cornwall

While you are at it, good idea to stamp the number in other places as well that may be overlooked by a thief. Especially if you can stamp it somewhere that would be hard to get an angle grinder to it. You need not stamp another VIN number either... stamp in another shorter number that only you...

    Waiting for HUE166

In June last year I subscribed to Land Rover Monthly magazine, mainly because I had started to buy it monthly anyway and there would be a cost saving having it delivered, However, part of the deal was the offer of a free model of HUE166 which for me was the decider. My first copy of the...

    Series 3 conversion

Original Defender wheel arches are different shape to Series and the fixing points will not fit where they should along the edge of the wheel arch. I have done the conversion and done quite a good job of it. First of all I found a company that sold wheel arch extensions for Series III. Sent for...

    Smoke Bomb

You can get them from your local garden centre, normally used for killing white flies and other nasties in a greenhouse. Also good if you've got an old house with silver fish or any other unwanted creepy crawlys. Unfortunately, no good for computer bugs.

Bolts for middle seat - safety.

According to the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency, Individual Approval (IVA) Manual.........for seat belt mountings. QUOTE.. Bolts used in structural areas should be of grade 8.8 or better. Such bolts will be marked 8.8 or 12.9 on the hexagonal head. UNQUOTE. So if you fit 8.8 or 12.9 then...

    Car recovery from ditch

Could it be the tyres you have had not enough tread or not an agressive enough tread to grip the tarmac ? And were they on standard small wheels ? Or maybe slightly over inflated ? Don't forget a tractor has very big drive wheels which have a large footprint.

    Certificate of Conformity.....help !

Agreed. But you have to have the original chassis or an exact copy/pattern replacement. Or the original monocoque body if there's no separate chassis.

    Certificate of Conformity.....help !

I visited there once, last year. It's only a small unit on an industrial estate and very secure. No one to greet visitors. A small reception room with a locked door leading into the main building with all sorts of unfriendly notices informing you that you should not be there without an...

    Certificate of Conformity.....help !

Do you mean, build all my parts onto that chassis ? It would not be legal as I would need that chassis plus the original engine/gear box or axles from the same vehicle. I think it's 3 major components that you must have to retain the vehicles identity. I would not mind at all having a 'Q'...

    Certificate of Conformity.....help !

I bought the chassis directly from the manufacturer Designa Chassis, so it has no VIN number.

    Certificate of Conformity.....help !

Already got a copy and the one that covers vehicles for transport of good rather than as passenger vehicles. I've read so many different guides and downloaded all the DVLA forms but I can't progress any further without the CofC.

    Certificate of Conformity.....help !

Well, I think you are right but I think it's more applicable to kit cars which can be built of all sorts of strange parts.. The way I see it is, if you build a vehicle which is basically the same as a manufacturer has already built hundreds or thousands the same; the manufacturer has already...

    Certificate of Conformity.....help !

Not sure of that, but the application form for first registration asks for a type approval number.
