    EAS unlock will not synchronise

Sorry... Yes that's what i mean, no green idle, won't connect.. I'm going to have another go at it, i'll have a look at the wires in the OBD connector but i can't see them being a problem, my fault code reader connects to the ECM ok.... I'll update in a couple of hours, i'll have a look at the...

    EAS unlock will not synchronise

I've tried this through a laptop on windows 7 with the USB convertor, I carried my PC out to the garage to use the serial port and tried it on an old P2 laptop with XP.. It will read fault codes but will not sync! The fault codes are many, i need to reset them and see whats left as there's no...

Anyone got a scrap P38 door lying around? I need some window runners...

If anyone's got an old door lying around.. I need the window runners, this is the guide which sits in a metal channel in the door and guides the window, the metal channel is part of the door, not the window mech. I havent bothered to ask at the main dealer - last time i asked them for a price...

    Thats it, it's fcuked!

I heard an interesting theory as to the cause of this issue, one of my colleagues has recently bought a race spec RV8 with a dyno readout proving 450bhp, the guy he got it off has been rebuilding rover v8's for 40 years, this came from him... Apparently the location of the thermostat is to...

    P38 Oil leak

I cleaned it off and had a closer look, it is the oil pressure switch which is leaking... It's kinda hard to miss really it's throwing it out! No biggie though these sensor's cost £2 each (Common problem on older P38's apparently). Better than the temp switch i bought for my cbr600, that was a...

    P38 Fuel Pump

I did it the hard way on mine - it's not a pleasant job but it's not that hard... watch out for corroded fuel pump fittings, The fittings were that badly rusted on mine that no amount of WD40 / time would release them.. They rounded off in the end... If this happens it's a tank off job to sort...

    P38 Oil leak

Just a quick question.... My Range Rover (P38 4.0 V8 - 1995) is leaking oil. From what i've been told this is normal for a Range Rover, infact people say worry when it stops leaking, because it's empty.. Anyway, judging by the small lake on the garage floor it's bad enough to need fixing.. I...

Did you remove the crank pulley using the 'long bar on the chassis and crank it' method?

    Cylinder Head Skimming Questions

I used to skim heads for a living, if the head gasket hasn't blown there's no point skimming it.. To clean the head up, get a decent size sheet of emery cloth and wrap it around a chock of wood, then use it to clean the face up rubbing diagonally across the head face, so that you clean it up...

Rr 4.6 srs fault on dash

I'm not sure if this is a common problem on range rovers - but i've seen a few airbag faults on different vehicles caused by the electrical coupling between the steering wheel and the wiring loom...

GEMS 4.0 - Check engine light on at key on - ECM OK?

That makes sense.. It probably cuts the pump when it starts to draw current over a given threshold... I know the relay doesn't click off until there's pressure so there must be something!

    New addition

It was an attempted theft, and it's done quarter of a million miles, i've stuck a new column on it and got the plastics, it still needs a few bits and pieces but it's nearly sorted. It has something wrong with the remote locking but it's not immobilised so that's a headache for when it's on the...

GEMS 4.0 - Check engine light on at key on - ECM OK?

I stuck a multimeter across the pins on one of the plug and cranked it, no needle deflection so no signal... The pump relay doesn't cut out therefore i'm assuming there's a pressure switch somewhere to tell the pump when to cut out at key on?

While i'm waiting for a hand to shove it to the front of my garage, thought i'd share my latest shed with you all. One day it will run.

GEMS 4.0 - Check engine light on at key on - ECM OK?

I havent checked the inertia switch but from what i've read it gives a message when it has so i'd have noticed that.. The fuel pump doesn't seem to be working, i swaped the relay with the starter relay and it still cranked, so the relay's ok. The fuel fump relay definately clicks on at key on...

GEMS 4.0 - Check engine light on at key on - ECM OK?

Awesome, i get no engine disabled / immobilised etc when turning over so i guess i'm not looking at an immobiliser / sync issue.. I have key fob issues but the prev owner had these when it ran.. another question, if the immobiliser is armed or the BECM is out of sync, will it spark? Cheers...

GEMS 4.0 - Check engine light on at key on - ECM OK?

Ok, i've asked this in my other thread but no one has answered so can i have a definitive answer to this please? GEMS ignition 1995 P38 4 litre V8 Range rover With the key on and in position two the check engine light comes on, does this mean that the immobiliser is disabled and the ECM is in...

HELP!! P38 won't start after attempted theft

It's not Diesel either! It's a GEMS 4.0, when you flick the ignition on there's no noise from the pump, i've had the pipe off and there's nothing coming through at all, smells like old petrol. Looks like the fuel pump's been knackered for a while....
