    Clunk at Back

Digging around I found this useful link, it doesnt look such a hard job to replace the gear if its worn, has anybody on here ever done this in situ on a defender? Also I cant see any mention of replacing the worn shaft, any advice on how to do that too? I might give this a go over the next...

    Clunk at Back

Mine does this, and it is not the A frame balljoint, I can avoid it mostly by careful clutch work - but today noticed it a lot on the motorway at about 65-70 mph, when pulling on and off the power. What is the solution? I am guessing its not cheap, nor and easy DIY job?

    How to Wax Oil

I would like to know too on this point, lots of stuff on here if you search, saying jack it up and pump it in, but never seen a single picture! Has anyone really done it? cue the "waxoyl makes your camera dirty" replies, but surely somebody has some pics? Or do we all have a full 5...

    headlining question

Hi all I removed the headlinging when I got my 200 tdi, and have only had the vehicle on the orad for about 4-5 months. It was pretty manky and damp, and underneath the paintwork was like new, very pretty. I like the look of it without, but I am guessing if I leave it out, I will get...

    steering box leaking - why???

Why do people generally replace with recon rather than stripping and changing seals? There are numerous seal kits available on ebay for about 15 quid. Is it really such a difficult job? scuse my ignorance! Just trying to decide which way to tackle this before my next mot. defender 90 200 tdi

    Waxoyl question?

thinking of doing this too. Did you pressure wash inside the chassis? Do you think its worth it or not? Also did you jack the vehicle up to allow the waxoyl to flow down inside?

    clutch release bearing?

My 200 tdi has developed a "rattle" - only occasionally, when idling in neutral. A friend heard it today and reckons it is the clutch release bearing. He had a similar thing on an old escort van and ran it for 3 further years without problems. What should or could I do? Whats the worst...

    side light problem

there are 2 wires to each side light. I assumed 1 live and 1 earth, but like I said have not looked into it properly yet. Would they have an earth wire? Or would the earth come from the vehicle body? There is a tab earthed to the wing inside each side light, so I suppose it is possible that...

    side light problem

hi, I have not, no, but I also dont know if they have ever been any different - I only had it 6 months. The only thing I did today was to take the indicators and side lights off so I could clean up and spray the headlight surrounds - I had to cut all the wires to get them out and rejoined...

    side light problem

Hi guys, 200 tdi 1993 defender I have an odd problem, side lights dont come on until the headlights are switched on, so only in the 2nd forward position of the switch. Not had time to investigate yet, but I am assuming it cant be a fuse or they would not work at all, so would it be the...

    oil artwork on my wheels!!!

when you put the new dust cap on, warm it up in hot water for an hour before fitting, that will soften it. I had the same problem with mine. The breather also was blocked on mine. I changed the whole screw in thingy on top of the axle as well as the pipe.

    The strangest feeling

I had this with mine, I had changed the rear wheel bearings and left too much play in them when adjusting them up. Try getting hold of the wheels 1 by 1 and giving them a good push and pull from side to side. You should not be able to move them more than a tiny bit. Once I readjusted the...

Looks like the same model as mine, apart from the Alpine roof windows. If you happen to track down the name or code of the red paint please would you let me know? I have not been able to find any to match mine. Mine came from a farm and had been used "properly" - it had / has the same...

    Chequer plate corners

I am not a big fan of chequer plate, but I have decided to at least do the rear corners on my 90 hard top. The panels are very tired at the edges and could do with the extra strength and look better. They arrived today, really good quality, £28 inc deliver off ebay, folded edges and black...
