    mechanic reqd high wycombe area

cant help you myself, as I am just a part timer like you, but have you popped down to Dingocrofts in Downley? They are great for spares, and all of the guys there are land rover enthusiasts, they will be able to point you in the right direction I am sure - they are virtually on your doorstep...

    Gearbox knock

the other thing to check is the rear A frame balljhoint, this causes a different kind of knock if worn.

    Gearbox knock

my fear was the same, but for the sake of a £45 part from Ashcrofts, and a couple of hours work, I would give it a try. Sure the shaft will have wear too, but the new gear will cut 50% of the wear out (assuming equal wear of course) and will stop it getting worse, as it will be cross drilled...

    Temperature gauge reads low

I dont think so, I bought a new one, using the LR part number, and it reads exactly the same as the old one. I def have a defender 200 tdi engine, so I am pretty sure it is notthe sender unit

    Temperature gauge reads low

My 200 tdi 1993 90 temp gauge has always never even got off the white at the start, it does mnove a bit, and I have so far tested it with a meter - ruliung out a faulty gauge, and replaced the sender unit with a brand new original land rover one, but the reading is the same, even on long...

I just drove about a mile without realising that I had the diff lock on in high range :-( Have I broken it? The light is off now and it feels OK, should I do anything else (other than never do it again!)

    adding pictures to a thread

Is there a limit to how many pictures you can put on this site, if so its not very well advertised? I keep trying to put some on but it "upload fails". If there is a quota how do I look at how much of mine I am using? cheers

Transfer Gear Advice - drivetrain slack

well its all done! Fitted the new gear today, the old one was a bitch to get out again, despite only having removed it last week and caking the splines with copaslip - but the new one slid in a treat. Some pictures attached, if you ever have to do this job a couple of tips: 1 - mark the...

    lt77 needed urgently!

I think you will find that this longer spline fix only applies to the R380 gearbox, not the LT77. See my thread : http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/transfer-gear-advice-drivetrain-slack-119917.html

Transfer Gear Advice - drivetrain slack

just a quick footnote before I do the replacement (gear due tomorrow): I put it all back together with the original gear, and today took it out for a few miles, and hey presto the CLUNK has all but disappeared! I can only put this down to having probably inadvertently put the gear back...

Transfer Gear Advice - drivetrain slack

yes they do all variants, I spoke to Dave Ashcroft, if you are not sure give him a call, he was very helpful. I have just ordered the gear so I will report back as I progress with the job. http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=43

Transfer Gear Advice - drivetrain slack

an update: I spoke to Ashcrofts this morning, very helpful. I was hoping that I could fit a new gear, which would have longer internal splines, hence picking up on the unworn part of the shaft - as per the pictures in that guide document. This however is only available if you have an R380...

Transfer Gear Advice - drivetrain slack

Hi all, another drivetrain slack thread! I have for some time on my 200tdi 1993 (100K miles), had a knock whn releasing the clutch. I have checked the balljoint and it is not that, there is probably a bit of wear in the bushes, and I am in the process of polybushing, but this thread is...

    wheel bearings

put a grinder thro the old races and then use them as a mandrel along with a mallet / hammer to drive the new ones into place. The gap that you have cut will prevent the old races getting stuck in the bearing housing. Dont be scared of this job its not difficult. I did it on my driveway...

    Clunk at Back

thanks, I am with you now, I removed this when I changed a wheel bearing a while back, whats the best way to establish if its worn? Jack it up and wobble it I guess? With diff lock engaged? Would that work?
