Hi Mine was like that when the handle came off in my hand so I cleaned it all up then put rust remover on then painted with black hamerite then put new handle on. I think it rusts because the water is constantly thrown up on the back from below as the holes at the top for the handle are ok.

Hi When I took my tailgate card off to replace handle it had a breathable membrane fitted and was fixed with rubber type sealer along the edge.So I carefully peeled it back then replaced and there was no damp inside.

I think anything that makes it safer to reverse is a good thing,If it means fitting a reversing camera as a extra to help you as well as using all your mirrors is a good thing. I find it difficult to turn my head round enough to see through the rear window so if a camera helps it is a good extra.
