    Odd Starting Problem

Hi Folks, Until Friday never had a problem apart from a persistently flat battery which I thought was a drain. Turned out to be the alternator which has also taken out the battery. So took it to the garage who fitted a new alternator and then tried to jump start the vehicle. Instead of firing...

Vacuum Advance much ado about anything ?

Bought a re-con unit from ignitioncarparts.co.uk about 18 months ago for £130 inc new coil. Comes with a 2 year warranty and a £25 refund on the old unit. No problems at all so far and it's an easy fit, just one 14mm bolt.

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

Jobs done now but was that for a standard rad or one like mine with the oil cooler pipes running through it. A standard re-core is around £90, but mine wasn't one of those:mad:.

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

Bad news about the rad, needed a re-core so the cost inc vat was £222. Installation was easy with the fan removed and so far so good. My mechanic is a bit concerned about the amount of pressure in the top hose, and has advised me to keep checking for air blockages, bubling in the expansion tank...

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

Must have done a bit of ringing around cos the repair cost is 10% of the new rad. The other issue is that the quote includes collection and return of the rad, can't ask for better than that..

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

Well the fan is off but took 2 hours. 30 mins wasted with the spanner and a hammer, and 90 mins with the air chisel running at 80psi shocking it around. Nut is well butchered in a couple of places but a quick wire brushing and some WD40 and it now spins on the threads like a top Rang...

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

What a pain in the bum removing the radiator is. Wasn't helped by a butchered jubilee clip in the bottom left corner, but removing an oil cooler connection in the bottom right corner was just as bad. Because of access the only way to do this is by removing the viscous fan, according to my...

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

Thanks for the advice guys, was a bit pee'd off when I posted last night. Noticed it had just stopped raining so went out to have a look. Only managed to get about 5L of water in before it poured out again, radiator is fubar!!. Started up briefly and there is still a misfire but will rev...

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

Yeah mate 3.9 petrol, should have stated that. Shame is that a previous owner paid over £3K for a re-build a few years and 40K ago, and until yesterday it ran sweet as anything. Put my foot down to overtake a vehicle, just got past and loads of white stuff out of the back, wouldn't rev over...

    Suspected Head Gasket Failure

Hi Folks, Rover brewed up big style today had to be recovered by RAC. I'm guessing that its a couple of days labour to fix, but does anyone know how much the gaskets, head bolts etc cost. Don't want to skimp on the job, just trying to get an idea of the total cost and what should be done...

    1994 RRC Original Stereo Equipment

Well Folks, Until I can get the original system diagnosed I've decided to fit the following speakers, along with an adaptor plate to provide clearance for the cone. Caliber 5.25" 340w 2-Way Comps - Thompsons Ltd Reason being at the moment I can't source speakers of the correct size for the...

    1994 RRC Original Stereo Equipment

Don't know if anything works yet and without a working head unit can't tell. Need to get things tested. I've seen amps and CD caddy's for sale on fleabay, but haven't seen a fully working unit advertised. If the multi-cd changer works I might buy an amp as it was replaced a few years ago, but...

    1994 RRC Original Stereo Equipment

Does anyone know what type of speakers are fitted or how I can tell. The top door speaker is smaller than the bottom, but I don't know if it's a tweater, mid range etc. Do I need 2 speakers or just 1 good one. In the long term I intend to have the original head unit etc refurbed, but I need to...

    1994 RRC Original Stereo Equipment

Don't know if it would work, but an old trick used to be put the stereo in the freezer for a day, knackers the chip. Alternatively there are plenty of places around that re-code for a tenner or so. Given up in my case for now, investigating further sodding speaker cones are rotten in the bottom...

    1994 RRC Original Stereo Equipment

What's the sound like though, my question is do I repair an 18 year old system or replace it. I like the idea of a multi changer but I can fit the Alpine for nowt. Spec wise they are about the same 25w per channel, but I've never had a system with an amp, sub woofer etc.

    1994 RRC Original Stereo Equipment

Checked that live & earth are ok and temporarily wired up a speaker to the Alpine and all is ok. As to the rest not a clue at the moment. Clarion charge £100 for a re-furb unit and it would only be worth it if I was sure the rest of the kit is good and sounds ok. Had a look on Rave for the...

    1994 RRC Original Stereo Equipment

Hi Folks, Original stereo has been dead since I bought Rover and there doesn't appear to be any power to the amp & multi cd changer in the boot. Before I try and figure out what if anything works etc and maybe get the stereo repaired, is it worth the effort? or would I be better off just...

    Rave dowload question

    1994 RRC Owners Manual

Yeah, seen that one mate along with a few others. Need to find the right list of codes...... Just been out on a dirt track and the brakes work fine and I can't spin the wheels, so I don't think there's too much wrong. There's a fair bit of info in Rave (mine seems to be a mix of the 93 and 95...
