Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

Its a tough one! The L322 is very big. The RRS is a much closer match to the P38 in size but seems smaller inside. TBH if I had to replace my P38 and couldn't find a nice cheap 2002 one I'd go for a Disco3. The advantage of 7 seats would at least go some way to making up for the size.

ignore the -38.88, all the late models show that, the engine no longer has an air intake temp sensor, it was replaced by the MAF

Reprogramming BECM to ECU with HAWKEYE

Ah Jaysus John, don't mention the rugby, ye gave us a hiding  Don't fall off that barstool, between the Nordies beating the Offaly boys in the hurling and the Sasanachs beating up the rugby boys there'll be a lot of grumpy leprechauns around Edenderry who might not be able to take a good...

Up in themiddle of the night! Chance would be a fine thing, my P38 is much better at sinking down over night than even staying at the level I left it at:rolly:

    P38 Off-Road Equipment

I don't agree with that. The fact that it ended up being almost exclusively a shopping trolley is no reflection on the car, just the people that bought it. Yes it was designed to have better on road manners than its predecessors but its still a live axled, ladder framed chassis car. The only...

    P38 Off-Road Equipment

Ah feck off Wammers, there's a whole lot more to off roading than wading (and more importantly, getting stuck!) in water :fighting2: The P38 is far more capable than it is given credit for but there is that big risk if you get stuck in deep water. I've seen pics of guys who've gone the whole...

    p38 Winch Tray

To be fair guys, 996Turbos solution is far superior to the OE winch tray. The OE one robs the P38 of a whole heap of approach angle and you're lugging it around full time. I built my own in behind the bumper but if I was doing it again I'd be doing it 996's way

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

Nope, lots of force and bending moment, no torque. For it to be defined as torque it must achieve rotation. Torque is a force couple. Angular rotation is inherent in the definition. Its a technicality, the SI unit for moment and torque is the same, N.m (or lb.ft). A static structure gets a...

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

Well folks, I think there is our answer. The parts that are failing in the HP22 are beefed up in a HP24. James, as a gearbox builder, do you think the clutch packs are failing through poor maintenance, accelerated wear or from excessive torque?

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

Thanks Wammers, Are the one way clutches one of the parts that are different between the HP22 and HP24?

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

He he! This thread is getting complicated and I'm just going to add a little bit more to the confusion! The Hi-lo box is irrelavant to the torque the gearbox 'feels', it's downstream of the gearbox. The driveshafts and wheels will get a whole heap of extra torque in low range but not the...

    P38 radio code

Mine was at that craic last week after an episode of battery drain while on holidays. Pull out fuse 1 overnight and then in the morning keep the band button pressed until it gives you the code in signal. If that doesn't work do a search on here, there are some threads on it, there is...

    PTO on a classic???

Agreed!! I have the sales and accessory bumf for the P38, it makes for a nice reference doc for specs and such. If you're interested I have a scan of a road test of the original RRC from Motoring Which 1972, makes for interesting reading. They did proper roads tests back then, kept the car...

    PTO on a classic???

Just had a look at RAVE for the Disco 1 and Defender, both have a 'PTO cover plate joint' on the back of the Transfer box. The Borg Warner does not so looks like that sorts that.

    PTO on a classic???

I don't know James, it was along time ago and I'm not saying it came off a borg warner, I just remember looking under mine to see where it would go before I bid and believing it would fit my 1992. I could easily have been wrong, that was early in my journey as an RR owner and I made lots of...

    PTO on a classic???

I'll see your sales literature and raise you one parts diagram from Microcat. Please note the header which says RRC MY1986 - MY1991 Its always a good day when you learn something new. I believe these were originally made for the 101 FC which used the RR running gear, although the blanking...

    PTO on a classic???

There was an official PTO for the RRC. I'll look up the part no and years applicable later. I just missed one on ebay a few years back.
