Does the ecu tell the speedo what mileage to read or would it work if I got the mileaged corrected to the car via a mileage correction service ?

hi all as the title says will a facelift td5 speedo cluster fit a pre facelift td5 2001 with all instruments working ? i understand the mileage will be wrong but are all the connections the same i have a problem with the rev counter and only one for sale at moment is a face lift speedo thanks Ian
