@kevwill - mmm... my other car's a P38 - on coil springs tho, but I don't want to get into the comparison thing (big minefield)

Intermittent 'Alternator Fault', 'Gearbox Fault', no rev counter.

I replaced the battery under warranty and the problems seem to have gone away. On the heat/ ventilation issue, I removed the felt bonnet lining a while ago due to it gradually disintegrating and I noticed that the vertical sides of the bonnet have large square holes. At the windscreen end of the...

Eas will not raise the car

I blame the heat! Either that or I am endowed with a special kind of stupid! When I had problems with a leaking valve block before, I took the air pipes from my coil conversion P38 and fitted them but did not remove the old pipe - I just ran it alongside. Problem is, when I swapped the valve...

Eas will not raise the car

Thanks for that Datatek; I suspect the driver pack also. I have now replaced the valve block with the one I removed to start all this off and the symptoms are the same. I have also replaced the ECU with no difference in symptoms. I will recon the valve block, and refit with a different driver...

Eas will not raise the car

Thanks for that but I think the calibraton is okay - unchanged from before the swap when all the heights were correct. Also, the software is not recording any faults and there is no hard fault or soft fault generated.

Eas will not raise the car

Hi, Yes, I have tried the search function but cannot quite get the answer I need  I am slowly trying to iron out the EAS problems on my 1995 P38. When I bought it, the EAS was erratic and I used Graeme Storey's software to reset the heights but I was still not happy with it so I replaced...

Ebay service packs - any good or source indivually?

There are a range of service kits available at Home > Britcar (UK) Ltd for a much better price - pattern or OEM. You need to check the VIN number to make sure you get the right fuel filter in the kit.

Intermittent 'Alternator Fault', 'Gearbox Fault', no rev counter.

Problem came back  weird stuff happening with the BECM now too - like my memory seat setting pushing me into the steering wheel; might change her name to Christine a la Stephen King! I keep trying this n that to fix it but no luck yet - any more suggestions most welcome.

Can we localize a UK L322 or L405?

Not sure why mph would drive you mad - I have two Range Rovers with mph in a km country and you just get used to it.

Intermittent 'Alternator Fault', 'Gearbox Fault', no rev counter.

Changing the engine bay fusebox fixed it no problem! Now it need to look at ways to ventilate the fusebox and protect it from too much heat.

Intermittent 'Alternator Fault', 'Gearbox Fault', no rev counter.

mmm, thanks for all the input. Mysteriously the fault has now gone away - she has now gone on to frying the aircon blower relays and occasionally refusing to run the aircon compressor at all! If the same fault comes back I will look at the crank sensor as that seems to be the next suspect.

Intermittent 'Alternator Fault', 'Gearbox Fault', no rev counter.

Hi Guys, I have used the search to try and find a solution to this, to no avail, so I thought I would throw it out there for a few ideas. About a week ago, my beloved Range Rover 4.6 HSE 1995 kindly informed me that she had an "Alternator Fault" and a "Gearbox Fault" and the rev counter...

    TD5 Auto box problems

I know this is an old post, but it describes my symptoms exactly. I am definitely going to check the selector switch and the connections as in the tropical climate here, aircon is in constant use so there must have been gallons of water over this switch and connection over the years. I just...

    P38 Diesel Parts Obsolete!

@Wammers, no, they didn't look very hard did they : ( I won't tell you who because they are normally very good. Anyway, thanks to all for the very quick response. True, there are not many P38 Diesels in Malaysia there were only around 2,500 P38's imported overall and the vast majority were 4.6...

    P38 Diesel Parts Obsolete!

I am looking to replace the timing gear on a 6 cylinder BMW Diesel in a P38. The upper and lower timing chain and top two gears/sprockets are available but my supplier reports that the crankshaft gear/sprocket (part number STC2091) is obsolete! They have checked with dealers across Europe but...
