    Perkins 4.203 question

I know this is a really late reply but I have only just seen it. My advice. Dont do it!!! 4.203 is a terrible engine. Low revving, noisy and can be crap to start. I dont see any redeeming features unless you are putting it into a fork lift! Good luck.

    ParaBollicks

You must have working dampers on the car to be legal You can remove the rear shocks on a std landy with 11 leaf springs and not be thrown from the road because of interleaf friction. This is a self dampening effect (like a friction damper) and means std shocks have a very weak dampening...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Just a heads up on the replacing a salisbury with a rover axle. The max axle weights are drasticly reduced by fitting a std rover axle. The wolf uses a specially strengthened axle case. Very late 110 with a "rover looking" axle is also beefed up. Think thicker case and internally...

    Engaging 4WD itself

Or has the special yellow knob spring retainer in the transmission tunnel pushed its way through the floor? Does it pop out of 4 wheel drive when you select low range?

    2.25 engine preferences

You can expect up to 19 - 21 mpg out of a petrol. It will need to be in good condition and serviced regular. Gentle driving and an overdrive will help. Free wheeling front hubs will also get you an additional 1mpg. A good petrol will cruise around 55 or 60 with an overdrive. High compression...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Hi Ryder. On a serious note. If you think landrover products soak up money. Dont think about a jag unless you are ready for a money pit situation. Old jags are 200 quid for the same reason a discovery is 200 quid.

Ah the magic petrol wash treatment that rebuilds gear teeth, shims and brgs. Let us know how that goes! ;)

Keep up the practicing Kai. Rome wasnt built in a day. How many other kids have welding practice in your year at school? Some hints. Sounds like a little less wire speed needed. Remember if the torch gets pushed away you need more power or less wire. Keep the torch held firm, a short...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Keep to the V8. Tried and tested and more than powerfull enough for anyone. Used with our “5litre” Stroker kit, and our Merlin F85 cylinder heads, we obtained 337bhp at 5500rpm, and 352ft lbs of torque at 4500rpm. The engine weighs in still under 200kgs and enough power to send your layshaft...

Just about to buy High ratio transfer kit

Sean I am not going to engange in who is right and wrong.(Not after this post) You have made a statement. IMO it is clear that those who know will just disregard most anything you write here, those that dont know should be warned that any advice you give might need more than a pinch of...

Series 3, running problem, help needed please

You must let the engine breath. By this I mean you must allow any crankcase pressure to vent itself otherwise you build up crankcase pressure and then oil will start to leak from every possible location. It would be desirable to gently "suck out" the crankcase. This also helps prevent oil leaks...

    Locking Hubs query ?

Every locking hub I have found to date work like this. When facing the wheel. Turn clock wise to lock Clock to lock... Turn anticlockwise to unlock. Anticlock to unlock... These devices connect or disconnect (Lock or unlock) the drive shafts from the wheel hub. When locked. Your...

    Stolen landrover defender

Just had some bugger try and steal my Radio from my disco in my local pub! I found the radio sitting on the passenger seat. Obviously my sad radio/tape system wasnt good enough for him! I should be able to refit it all. No major damage seems done. Sorry to read about all your cars. Makes...

Just about to buy High ratio transfer kit

Actually I believe an 88 landy truck cab well serviced could well outperform a 110 fitted with a roof rack in an avoidance scenario. Add to that equation the numpty driving who fits a spare wheel and extra jerry cans on the roof rack of the 110 and there would be no contest. I would suggest...

Getting the most out of a 2.25 diesel

Just read this lot and thought I would throw in my 2pence worth. Some has been said allready. 1. Fan blades. You need a lot of power to turn fan blades at high speed. Fine at low rpm they use bugger all power. Turn these babes at 3000 rpm and you will soak up power and a LOT more than...

Ref KRSMAYO. If you need better tyres. You shouldnt be driving the lane in the first place! Ground clearance would be the only issue. The guys with you are sure to help out if needed. Make sure you have a real good rope (not strop or any other lifting gear) and somewhere to attach it...
