Freelander 1 TD4 wont' start - HP pump parameters ?

Thats the type of info I was looking for ! That's brilliant, thanks guineafowl21 ! What is RAVE and can I access it or do I need to subscribe ? It does look more and more like its the crank sensor - I didn't notice the rev counter, I'll check it.

Freelander 1 TD4 wont' start - HP pump parameters ?

Would the crank sensor stop the engine starting ? Does it give a continuous signal to the ECU while the engine is running, or just at start up (as I understand the camshaft sensor does) ? I've just put the cars history together, and one thing I noticed is pushing me down the "rebuild the HP...

Freelander 1 TD4 wont' start - HP pump parameters ?

I've not changed the o ring, just put the reg on from an apparently running vehicle to see if that helped. I think replacing the o rings and maybe an HP pump rebuild are next on the list, but I was wondering what the HP pump operating parameters are ? No point rebuilding it yet if its within...

Freelander 1 TD4 wont' start - HP pump parameters ?

I'm continuing this on from another thread I started about crank sensors as its now another "TD4 won't start" thread ! Basically I replaced the clutch and flywheel on my TD4 (2003 on a 52, manual, 118k miles) which started perfectly before I touched it, and now it will not start. I dropped the...

    TD4 Crankshaft Sensor ?

I might open a new thread about HP pump parameters, see if theres a definitive answer out there ;). I just checked mine again and the reading says "HP Rail" and the reading whilst cranking had dropped to 31,729. Still sounds like enough to start it if yours is 26,000 idling but I want to be...

    TD4 Crankshaft Sensor ?

Thanks Nodge. Any idea what the HP reading should be when the engine is being cranked on the starter ? I tried it just now and saw about 44,000 before the battery power went and the diagnostic reset. I will try again later but it would be good to know what I should expect to see.

    TD4 Crankshaft Sensor ?

Thanks Mike, went out and had a check but its all good. While I was out there I plugged my code reader in and took some live engine readings with the ignition on. Should have written them down, but from memory the fuel rail pressure was 101.4, the low pressure was around 369 and the high...

    TD4 Crankshaft Sensor ?

I've just finished a bit of a rebuild on my 2003 (52) TD4 - the clutch had gone so I dropped the engine and box, replacing clutch and flywheel. All good - except now it won't start  Whilst the engine was out I removed the inlet manifold and painstaking cleaned the inside -gallons of Mr...

2003 TD4 Manual coolant hoses into heater matrix

Has anyone got an "in situ" picture of the hoses that go through the bulkhead to the heater matrix ? I assume the shorter hose with the bleed valve goes on the top heater matrix port and the longer hose from the IRD goes to the lower heater matrix port ? I've had the engine out and am just...

TD4 Flywheel - Solid or stay Dual Mass ?

Thanks, fitting an SMF does seem to make sense but I was really hoping someone who has fitted one and run the car like that for a while would chip in - but maybe no one has !

    2004 TD4 transmission problems.

I was getting terrible clunk/graunching noise from the rear of my 1.8 petrol when reversing on full lock. Turns out it was rotting out where the rear subframe attaches to the rear floor, allowing the subframe to move and amplifying the noise through the floor. Nasty !

TD4 Flywheel - Solid or stay Dual Mass ?

The clutch on my TD4 has given up, so I'm expecting to replace the DMF at the same time. Whats the current thinking/advice on replacing the DMF with a solid flywheel ? Plenty of kits about all promising good things, but has anyone done it and have now covered a good few miles ? I have had a...

    Rear Diff problem ?

Got the sickly SAAB sorted yesterday so had the Freelander in the workshop today. Did the diff test as suggested above, nice and smooth, no rumbling or binding. Jacked one rear wheel up and stuck a torque wrench on a wheel nut to see if it turned. Yes, with some pressure I could turn it very...

    Rear Diff problem ?

Thanks for your replies folks. I did indeed strip and check the rear brakes - I thought a shoe might be lifting in reverse - but everything was in good order. The oil that came out of the diff was almost black. Because of the whining I have picked up a reconditioned rear diff, just not fitted...

    Rear Diff problem ?

Thanks Hippo, I will give that a go once my sickly SAAB is out of the workshop. Is there a simple way to check the condition of the rear CV joints ? I did wonder if they were binding somehow.

    Rear Diff problem ?

Hello, I'm looking for some advice please. I've got a 2001 Freelander 1, the 1.8SE petrol version. Its got 75k miles on it. I bought it as a non runner because the timing belt had snapped, and ended up repairing that and replacing the head gasket. All good, runs really well now. But, once up...

    Hello, another Newbie

I've been cruising this forum for a while and thought its about time I joined. I have a 2005 Discovery 3 for towing a horse trailer, and a 2001 Freelander 1 1.8SE. I try and do all my own spannering, so the info I've picked up here has been really helpful :)
