Hi, Thanks for the friend request - always good to get to know folk. Only just noticed I'm no longer a noob - just a member! Defender then? My S3's got the 17H engine (ie. 2.5 petrol), and with any luck I'll get her back today - she keeps spending time with the local landyman mechanic. Maybe...

Interior Sun Visors - Make or Buy?

Guess that's that then - yet another wee job to do mi'sen! 'Fraid these won't scrub up as the surface has rotted away, but they should re-cover ok. Hmmm, what to cover 'em with (instead of the cobwebs currently there...) MC Don't have a pic. Not really something you'd normally look AT, just...

Interior Sun Visors - Make or Buy?

Hi, Does anyone know of anywhere you can still buy interior sun visors for a Series 3? I'm starting to think I'll have to try and make a pair, since ages searching online has returned no results (unless 'out of stock' is a result?) My memory's crap at the best of times so I often find I'm minus...

Best Carb for S3 with Def 2.5 engine

Cheers Lodger! That confirms it. It IS a 90 engine. Checked out fine on that website, so at least the V5 is correct... hmmm, only the insurers to let know now! I thought she was a bit better than other S3s I've had. Ran her on LPG for the 1st time today & she runs so smoothly and quietly! Not...

Best Carb for S3 with Def 2.5 engine

Thanks Lodger, Got a new choke cable due to arrive any moment in fact. It had been oiled a few weeks back, but decided a new one wouldn't hurt since it didn't fix the problem totally. Also had new points fitted so at least it runs ok now. I have got the engine no. but is there anywhere online...

    Electrician needed

Ain't solved my problem yet... I replaced the front indicators and side lamps - worked fine until night time. Turned out when I put on the dash panel lights the indicators stop working. 1984 S3 - wiring been messed about with a fair bit (only had it a month) - any ideas for when I take off the...

    Where do you live?

Sunny (on rare occasions) Scarborough in North Yorkshire. Wet, windy, ancient, and oh so cool... but so would you be if you lived here! MC

    A Highland Hello.

Good place to start... My beastie (technically she's the Mad Cow!) left Dunfermline to find me in Scarborough. With any luck she'll be back in God's Country before the year's through! MC :5bcheers2:

Engine Change - DVLA want SO much Info!

Love that AA claim - who are they kiddin'?!!! Surely the folk on this forum could rival their numbers for fixing it by the roadside? MC

Engine Change - DVLA want SO much Info!

Fer fook's sake... I still can't confirm just what engine my S3 has got. It says 2495cc on the V5, but I bought it as a 2286. I can only guess it's a Defender replacement. Isn't there a way of checking out the engine number to find out what you might have under your bonnet? It kind of makes a...

Best Carb for S3 with Def 2.5 engine

Hi, Even the guy who flogged me my Series 3 petrol/lpg wasn't aware the engine wasn't a 2286 bog standard - turns out it's likely to be a 2.5 defender one. But the carb hasn't been changed - apparently it should have the twin choke weber...? It recently had a few problems that may just be down...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Leave you to it? Nah - too many treks to distant lands - well, Russia, not to want to get intimate with the Mad Cow. It'll be a bad connection back of the dash - last owner must have been an 'artful bodger', esp. when it comes to wiring. MC

What have you done to your Landie today.

Fookin' Lord Lucas! New indicators, new sidelamps - fitted 'em, working fine until you turn on the dash panel lights! Whaaaaat?! Still, it's not as though I need to look at the speedo on these dark evenings - that's what the SatNav's for. Sigh... back to the bloody wiring loom, what joys! MC :wtf:

Do we have any disabled peeps who may want one of these?

Yeah - mine's a S3 and anyway I'm spent up or else my 83-yr-old mum could have used it - she broke her spine and is still in hospital. Still, if I win the lottery... MC

What have you done to your Landie today.

Apart from sworn at and kissed it, I've replaced 2 indicators and 1 sidelight - the other will have to wait till tomorrow. Y-O-Y don't Paddock include the self tappers to fit the bulb connectors, as I had drill out the old onesthis morning, waking the neighbours trying to grab a rare lie-in...

    The Mad Cow cometh!

Hi Chunky Munky, Used to visit Pateley Bridge almost every week back in 2002-05. That main street would have been fun in the snow! I agree, your Aunt would be well advised to get a Landy. BTW - I note you've got a 1984 Defender? Is it the 2.5 petrol? Looks like my S3 might have had an engine...

    The Mad Cow cometh!

Greetings my fellow loons! Well I finally got to take the Mad Cow out for a spin and she ended up doing the local racetrack (that's Oliver's Mount in these 'ere parts!) - on ice! Not bad for a 27-yr old, still up for it! so far so good - she's behaved herself. Just need to sort out my ciggie...

    The Mad Cow cometh!

Now now Mad Git - some of our female members might say that last comment is a wee bit sexist. Personally I'd agree. Women drivers are sometimes so vague you need a crystal ball to figure out what the hell they're gonna do! Give me a purposeful bloke any day - might not agree with his purpose...

    Insurance and modified vehicles

I've got some mods - LPG conversion, modular wheels, also shocks & springs being better than 'standard'. Am wondering how insurers (esp Flux) respond to fitting a different engine, such as a Defender 2.5 in a Series 3? If done by qualified mechanic and using a replacement Landy motor, surely...
