    Back pressure in exhaust

As I understand it, The back pressure in the exhaust is created by the restrictions and baffles in the system used to reduce noise. (in a standard system) Therefore the ecu is mapped accordingly (at the factory) to run at its optimum taking this pressure into consideration. Getting rid of...

    Impolite Moderators

I can't remember where I read this, but it made me laugh, so I'll share it: 'Arguing in an Internet forum is like running in the special olympics, You might win, but at the end of the day, you're still a retard'

    Mystery bolt

I agree, mines the same, coolant pipe bracket. On the front of the right hand bank of cylinders (when viewed from the drivers seat) Dave.

    Blind and stupid......

I notice from the pics that you've got a bog roll in the dash. so when you've been for a sh*t in the woods, you could stick yer flag in it so nobody walks through it and gets a sh*tty shoe. Just a suggestion :scratching_chin:

    3.9 v8 efi auto into a 90 defender

Its only a suggestion Malc, but I would avoid putting the ECU in the battery box, Only because its a dark, damp, lonely place, containing a plastic box full of acid. Rover always kept it in the passenger compartment (RR under seat, Disco by your toes) and I'm sure they have their reasons for...

    Diesel over back door

Have any oil levels dropped? ie. engine/ gearbox/ transfer box. A good sniff (or taste, if sir prefers) of the back door you give a rough idea where you should be looking.

    Diesel over back door

How old is your 90? if the fuel tank is under the drivers seat, pull out the seat base, and the lid over the tank, and have a look for chaffed/ damaged fuel return. If it was the supply pipe you would also have bad starting/ poor running etc as it would draw air in.

    Ford Transit adaptor plate?

Yes it will, however, avoid tranny engines newer than 1994 ish as the diesel pump incorporates all sorts of electronic trickery, and an immobiliser, linked to the little red chips that appeared in the keys around the same year. Don't get me wrong, these newer engines will fit, but you might...

    Diesel over back door

Due to the defenders 'exceptional' aerodynamics, anything that leaks will probably end up on the back door. Have a good look undernaeth. Hope this helps, Dave

    install sanity check

Sorry to go off on a slight tangent, but may be relevant anyway. Vougese39, Am I right in thinking that lambda sensors were only fitted with cats? (1992/1993ish) and, if the cats are subsequently removed, would you recommend leaving the lambdas out? (and swapping tune resistor for non cat...

    Alternator Problem

At tickover with no load (lights off etc) then you want at least 13v ish, although tickover isn't really ideal for measuring output. raise engine speed to 2500 - 3000rpm and expect 13.5 - 14v. Then turn on as many electrical loads as poss (headlights, blowers, wipers heated screen etc.) and you...

    3.9 v8 efi auto into a 90 defender

Let us know how you're getting on, malcs90. I did the same thing with my 90 and its great. The wiring is pretty straightforward, The EFI loom comes out of the rangie a piece of cake, there is a multiplug next to your left ankle (when sat in drivers seat) that needs disconecting, and the ECU...

    disco2 v8 rebuild what oil

Guinness, you should NEVER run a freshly built engine on semi or fully synthetic oil. Use a good quality mineral oil at the specified grade for your engine. 10w 40 in your case. Better still, buy a proper running in oil. Try fleabay, 5l for less than £20, but i think you'll need nearer 6l...

    Alternator Problem

Also, make sure the alternator is bolted up tight, so the body of it is earthed properly. I see from your picture that the alternator bracket is painted, and this may cause earthing probs. Dave

    Alternator Problem

Paul, Its difficult to see in your picture if there are any markings near the terminals, but the fattest cable (which goes to the positive battery terminal, using the fat cable thats already come as far as the starter), should be attached to your alternator at the terminal marked B+ The...

    Defender rear door

The older doors only have two hinges, not three. there is also no hole in the door skin for the lock. It can be drilled, but spend a little time making sure that you get it right 'cos you only get one chance.

    Changing the front prop

    Changing the front prop

If you have the right amount of oil in the box, then you should lose a dribble, but one you've undone the big nut in the middle ( stick it in diff lock) it will only take seconds to swap the bolts. tighten the big nut to 162 NM or 120 lbf.ft. Or 2 grunts and a groan.
