    I recently replaced the Springs and Shocks on my 94 300tdi and it made an incredible difference. I am in the process of replacing all the bushes with good quality Poly ones, Steering damper will also be replaced at some point. All these changes have made a real difference to the handling.

    I was just going to post exactly the same thing I think the handbook says 3 times to re-synchronize the fob with the car, mine does it all the time, sometimes I have to walk around to the passenger side for it to work, but it does it at least twice a week.     Have you checked all the vacuum pipes and breathers? Do the brakes improve temporarily when the smoking happens? If oil is causing a hose to become blocked it could eventually dump the oil somehow into the turbo which would result in the brakes working fine for a short period until the hose...

    Just get some ASDA 5W/30 its cheaper than chip oil and is great for the Winter. :D
