Insurance Question, and i have searched honest

These companies always make me laugh. I'm currently paying £260.00 fully comp with 9 years protected no claims with Swift. I just did an online quote with Lancaster and they wanted £2016.35 for the same cover :D

    will this fit ?

Word of warning, if you retro fit that to your disco, tell the insurance company because if you hit someone or something with that on, they will have a baby and refuse to pay out.

How to Change a Turning Signal Bulb on Discovery I?

just wondering if the OP found this useful? a reply would have been nice.

    will this fit ?

The biggest problem you will have is undoing your bumper to chassis bolts, because thats where it bolts on. It's likely that they will be properly seized. Personally I would buy new bolts and grind the old ones off.;)

    Servicing a 300 tdi

ASDA's own 5W/30 is great for the price, thats what's in mine, its cheap enough to change every 3000 if you so wish, and great for the winter.

With axles and gearbox etc always make sure you can open the filler plug before draining the oil.

    Burnt leather....yikes

I've read of companies that can repair small holes (cigarette) type burns in leather, you may find them advertising in Classic car magazines. From the pictures I've seen repairs are almost invisible.

disco 1 rear axle-radious arm bracket failure

What scared me was the thought of what could have happened if it snapped whilst on the motorway! I would recommend that anyone with an older Disco replaces the brackets, they are not expensive, but its likely they will go at some point so prevention is better than cure!

    Gutted

New brackets were welded in on Monday, I've got a nice new set of Orange Poly bushes to fit to the lower link arms tomorrow with nice shiny new nuts n bolts. Not that they'll stay nice and shiny for long but I hate refitting old nuts n bolts :D I fitted the new bump stops yesterday and got the...

    springs and shocks

Its an easy job and as as has been said you don't need spring clamps. Get yourself a big stillsons because chances are the shock bolts will be seized and you'll need the stillsons to grip and turn the shock. I changed mine recently and fitted a Bearmach heavy duty set.

some work on the disco , is it a reasonable price ?

You have to start some where and I'd suggest that the oil changes are a good place to start. Once you get some confidence you'll be doing timing belts and gearbox rebuilds this time next year. :D Seriously though, just roll up your sleeves and go for it. ;)

some work on the disco , is it a reasonable price ?

My local garage charges £35.00 per hour labour, so about 7 hours if you work it out. Providing all the jobs are straight forward I would imagine... 1 hour...fit de cat pipe and egr kit 1-1.5 hours...swap the door over (can be fiddly) 1-1.5 hours...full service inc fluids, diff oil and gear...

    Fitted my CB

I'm going to get a short rubber duck type Ariel for laning, after all your only speaking car to car so a few hundred yards is all you need, and it only takes a few seconds to swap them over.

Yes its got a spring in it, you just have to be careful when you take it off, I'll try not to park next to a drain.. :D

    Bump Stops

thanks, thats what I was thinking, but thought I'd get a few opinions first. :)

    Bump Stops

I need to replace the bump stops on the back of the Disco. Is there any advantage in Spending £30.00 on a pair of Extended Poly ones or should I just spend £7.00 for 2 regular ones?

    snorkel time..

I left them in to dry, I put a fan heater in the foot wells over night for a couple of days with the window cracked open, they dried ok, I probably should have taken them out but couldn't be bothered. :D

    snorkel time..

If you had wading plugs fitted, which I doubt then remove them. I would also change the axle oils as water may have got in through the breathers. I learnt the same way as you. :D
