    Disco wheel offset

Following on from the wondering wheel incident last month, I have decided to get rid of the wheel spacers altogether, I've never used my offroad set without spacers before but I have to admit it looks ok without them. Apart from rubbing on the radius arms. I'm soon due for some new boots and...

Obviously the bottom 2 bolts will need to be removed eventually in order to replace the gasket.

    1996 TDi Exhaust Manifold

Yeah, as mark says, just a few bolts. 13's for the inlet manifold and 15's for the exhaust manifold if memory serves. You have to remove the inlet manifold first, top bolts need to be completely removed, bottom 2 can just be slackened and the manifold lifts out upwards giving you a better view...

    it failed

access plate just gives u access to the fuel tank sender unit. It should be accessible without lifting it. or if you've got some blocks you could drive up on would make it a bit easier.

    winch security

I've just welded a plate over the heads of the bolts so that they can't be undone. Also welded the bumper on as people often nick the whole bumper if they can't get the winch off.

    Word of warning!

Good point, I'm not sure. My mate is giving me a spacer (same as mine) to use so it'll be back with 4 tomorrow.

    Word of warning!

Changed discs and pads last night, the spacer that came loose is worn around the chamfers and on the spiggot dia so that's gone in the bin and i'm back the the standard wheel on that corner until I get another spacer, I've locktite'd the other spacer nuts on, and checked what the air gun...

    Word of warning!

Thanks mate, this is what I'd been saying all along! Anyway, went to paddocks to get new brake kit and asked them. They said as long as they are the tapered nuts and not the flat bottom ones they are fine on steels.

    Word of warning!

Yeah, spacer sits snuggly on the hub spigot and same with the wheel on the spacer spigot.

    Word of warning!

They are ali spacers. It is possible that the studs have been stretched.

    Word of warning!

I didn't think 1000Nm was correct value, I just buzzed it up til it stopped and thought... that'll be tight enough.

    Word of warning!

    Torque = force x distance. 90kg (my weight) x 9.8 to convert to newtons = 882N x 1.25m (length of a 1250mm breaker bar) = 1102.5Nm or torque.
  19. bigrichsri

    Word of warning!

I assume ur calling me chris? I didn't know the torque setting for the wheel nuts until yesterday, i'd assumed they'd b a hell of a lot more than 130Nm. It doesn't seem enough.

    Word of warning!

No, I did them with the air gun when I originally fitted the spacers a few months back, as I fitted them at my mates garage and it's his airgun. I tightened them with my electric buzz gun after the wheel had come off last week (which is still supposed to be 441Nm max torque) and then further...
