Thanks crazymac, I checked this as a matter of course and all is well. I fitted new bias plate and springs not so long ago. I think it's an internal issue due to it binding up and snagging before I lost 4th.

Thanks James, I've removed and refitted 3 R380's so I've got a fair idea what to expect with that part of the job. Going to try removing it by craning through the transmittion tunnel this time.

Yes this is true but if the needle was moved 10mph it would cover most speeds, the vehicle would only be doing a few mph over at 60mph and 70mph and under at lower speeds.

Defo the head gasket, you can't just change the gasket tho, you will need head skimming and pressure testing or new/recon head fitted, mine went between 2 and 3 twice. Had head skimmed 1st time then recon head 2nd time
