No it's actually on the turbo itself and is electronically actuated , with ignition off it should be free and not stiff or sticking. Bit fiddly to get to buy at least it would give you some idea what your up against . This is first thing I go for on these engines. Hope this helps you out

Quick check you can do is with ignition off, check the turbo actuator is free and not sticking at all. Might have to take a couple of heat shields off though. This is usually the fault with these engines

I can only comment on marslands as that's all I've used, but can't complain and the bulkheads don't need much shimming I've found

If it is you will struggle to buy the correct adapter that fits, I had to modify and cut bits out of a piece of scaffold pole, because where the press needs to be its not totall flat for installing the ball joint. Obviously your not going to, but they're 100x easier with gear box out. I know what your saying as I used to struggle but you know those locating lugs on the gasket? That sit into the sump, try super gluing them to the sump, works for me

It's the locking tools you need to check the timing properly, most chain marks never seem to line back up unless you spin the over loads of times
