All you can do is a visual check. A penetrative dye test will aid the visual check by highlighting any cracks in the block and as the op said in an earlier post he didn't check the block before refitting the head.

What was your logic behind it being the helicoils as it is suffering from the same symptoms from before the head was helicoiled. I'm just curious as to how much of this guys time you want to waste?. You've offered no logic, merely posting names of engine components.

But you seemed so sure. What will it be next, perhaps a cross threaded Dust Cap or maybe a split wiper blade causing it to overheat. Who knows ?

You may find in that case that you get them as part of a gasket set. Just done mine and they were included in the head set.

The tappets are mechanical as opposed to hydraulic so an oil change wouldn't make any difference, and they would also be noisy from the second you start it too, not just from 2k rpm as you've said. Could be the vacuum pump, I wouldn't want to try diagnose on here. But it's not the tappets at...
