    Liverpool victoria insurance....

Hi, Photobucket refuses to speak to me, won't even let me download any more pictures. I think that photo is on PB already, so I will try to send it. 602 (Techno-wimp)

    Liverpool victoria insurance....

Hi Wife parked her Saab 900 "Classic", facing the wrong way. Got out, noticed one wheel was nicking the kerb. Opened door coupe, reached in, put key in ignition (on SAAB, ignition key locks the gear lever in reverse, you cannot remove key if it is not in reverse), shoved gear lever into...

    Liverpool victoria insurance....

Hi, Are you a member of CSMA? Its worth a substantial discount? Not a civil servant? Have you got a relative who is, which make you eligible to join. I'm paying a smidgen over £100 for bog standard fully comp, drive other vehicles, unlimited driving abroad, wife to drive, protected NCB...

    Would you buy a Disco 200tdi ?

Hi. My attitude is to buy a 200TDi with a long MOT, for as much under £1000 as possible. Drive it till the MOT expires. then ask myself if its likely to pass another MOT. If in doubt, don't, save yourself £50. Either break it for spares, keeping the new tyres and battery etc, to go onto the...

    Brake master cylinder

Hi, I don't think so. The bigger pipe is (I think) to facilitate flow of fluid from reservoir to master cylinder ..... there is only a few inches of "head". 602

    Chassis bush tolerance

Hi, Look ..... your chassis bush is knackered. The easy solution is to buy a new chassis with those bushes already fitted. :) Just an idea ...... get a bit of threaded rod and two nuts. Fix bush on end of rod, with enough rod to hang onto without your hands getting close to the bush. Then...

    Brake master cylinder

Hi, Does your new cylinder look the same as the old one? Sorry, I can't remember the names of the two types, but one has a big nut on the end, and one doesn't. Both types have two holes, one connects to the reservoir, the other connects to the pressurised system. These holes were swapped...

    Land Rover tax exempt questions

Hi, You either need the original chassis and matching V5. OR fit a brand new chassis built to same spec as the original. Fitting a second hand chassis means that your truck has an indeterminate "date of birth". Fitting a brand new chassis counts as a repair. But what is "same spec as...

    200 Tdi exhaust

Hi, If you have a turbo, you dont actually NEED a silencer at all. My 1960 S2 with 200TD engine just has a length of pipe from manifold to just in front of rear tyre. My wife mutters about it being just a smidgen noisey, but the MOT bloke didn't even comment. 602

    Are rear safari doors rare?

Hi, Paddocks sell them new, something like £70 (last time I looked and I think that was glazed). Remember you will need hinges and lock. 602

    replacement dif salisbury axle

Hi, Me? I'd find a pair of 3.5 diffs from a Range Rover, and get rid of the Salisbury axle. Er....Salisbury axle? That means you have a LWB? If you have a SWB, get rid of it anyway. If I only fitted the rear diff, I'd keep FWH for emergencies in mud, but no-no on tarmac. My understanding...

Did IIA ever come with a plastic grill and rounded hood?

Hi, I believe the rounded bonnet (hood) was a "de luxe option". Nope, just checked my parts book. Only two bonnets shown, both curved front edge, one with spare wheel recess, one without. There is reference to a 1-ton bonnet, but no picture. Maybe the sharp bonnet was WD only? 602

Power steering for a Series 3 - help please

Hi, Does moving the front X-member forward 3" count as a RADICAL change, and even if it does, does it matter if you are not doing a REBUILD (being pedantic). 602

Power steering for a Series 3 - help please

Hi, Pics on the S2 Club forum indicate that the steering box wants to go where the front cross member is welded on. Solution seems to be to cut a few inches out of the X-member, and weld it, or something that looks like it, 3" further forward. to stop the bit that is left sagging...

    Gearbox locking up

Hi, I'd guess its something on the lines of your gear lever isn't pulling the box out of reverse. So box stays in reverse, you select another gear (which I don't think should be possible, cos detent balls are there to stop that ...... but I've had it happen a couple of times). If gearbox is...

    Homemade Parts Washing Formulas

Hi, I got a holiday job cleaning off old commercial ovens. Dunk in a mixture of water and washing soda, bring to boil then let simmer for a few hours. As a kid we used to use caustic soda .......... I stripped all the paint of my S1 with a gas blow lamp and a wire brush. Panels bulged...

i have just got this off my dad

Hi, The original S1 LWB was 107". Circa 1957ish, Rover added an extra 2" to the wheelbase (without telling anybodyu) so they could fit a diesel engine. The 86" became a 88", and the 107" became a 109". I think the LWB rear springs stayed under the chassis, same as the SWB ..... no spring...

    Driving without MOT

Hey, My mail posted itself without me telling it to. Anyway, a couple of years previously, I had given an out-of-court settlement to a lad who had booked an MOT but had to stop at chemist on the way, to get pain-killers for his toothache. As far as I can remember, he paid it ......... I...

    Driving without MOT

there is no distance limit in law, to how far you can travel to an MOT , but it must be direct eg no stopping for a burger on the way Hi, Some years ago, my mate Fred in Pontardawe (Swansea Valley) booked an Mot test. He stopped on the way to buy some fags, chatted the shop girl up for 20...

Hi, No, but fairly close. 602 is "last three" of my RAF number. I had problems persuading AOL to give me a meaningful username. I also answere to John. But if I sign 602, I can recognise my own mails, which helps if you were born before WW2. w3526602 Cpl Williams. J. (RAF demobbed 1967)
