    Help needed 88 pickup

HA I just thought mine fitted together badly, I appear to have no strip at all and a big draughty gap that's currently full of pipe lagging. In fact there's a few things in that pic that mine doesn't have...

    Lancaster Insurance - Recommended

they cancelled my midget insurance no bother, i even got the right amount of money back, dated from when I rang up! All i did was say I'm having to cancel 'cos you won't insure my modifications and it was a painless 5 minute call.

    Doors out of square

a massive seal. elephant should do. mine fit like throwing a sausage down a well top to bottom, and like throwing a sausage into a sausage sized hole front to back. some bugger's welded the cage on so the door gap is just too small. had to chop a bit off the door to get the drivers one to fit

    mucky coolant bottle

mixture of builders sand and fairy liquid. pop in, spend a while swilling it about, pour out. seems to have mostly worked on mine, tho be careful to get all the sand out afterwards...

    Weber carb

here's 3 Land Rover - a set on Flickr the SU on the metro is mounted at about 45 degrees, so half way between side-draught and down-draught. you can see the 45 degree elbow under the carb, this came with the metro bit. older ones have a rotatable seperate float chamber so you can run...

    Weber carb

was cheap for me. carb (1 3/4 'old' size, is a HIF44 'new' size) from a rover metro 1.4 8V K series. Needle is right (surprising but true! - would have been a bit rich new but with 120K on it is OK). made adaptor plate out of 10mm thick ally, it bolts to the webber adaptor, so it uses...

'Thrumming noise' at 50 mph and above

swap em front to back? see if the noise moves or it turns into steering wheel vibration or something will tell u if it's tyres or bearings.

    Weber carb

I had a webber on mine and i hated the bastid thing. would cut out every junction. i couldnt mess wif it to get it to stop doing it. so i fitted a 1 3/4 SU, threw away the oil bath filter and have had more power, more economy and no sodding cutting out. tho im open to suggestions that my...

    whats your opinion on

if yu've not got fade with the current setup then why bother spending more money on posh discs and posh pads? tis only worth upgrading if the current stuff is not working, not just "cos it's better". I run greenstuff on the Midget because i had fade with OEM pads. I don't like them, too...

A new member, A new Landie and a few qusetions please.

get yerself a haynes manual fer the wiring diagram - follow it through. wiring on a s3 should be similar enough to the 2A stuff so you can just copy it in from the wiring diag. theres only about 3 fuses and mostly sensible, is OK once you get yer head round it tho a bit daunting to start with...

Seeries Gearbox - genuine or replacement parts?

eats the synchro rings? seem to remember a mate's spitfire manual saying something similar about the diff oil, something about the phosphor bronze thrust washers being eaten by the additives in the GL5? maybe. apparently it 'melts' the copper washers in the diff. don't see how that would...

    200di conversion

is it actually cheaper? cos mine does 22 mpg with the petrol, and petrol is cheaper than diesel. do you get enough mpg out of the doozil to make it cheaper to run over the same distance? just wondering thats all :)

Started Resto work on my S3

bodge tastic :) . at least your wiring is the same colour in and out. mine was rewired by a plumber, so all the wires are either brown, blue or yello'n'green stripy. absolute nightmare attempting to wire in a trailerboard light socket... nice job on the bulkhead :)

    More miles per gallon

'68 2A 88 does 22 - 23. gotta huge SU on it from a metro, apparently the needle is about right :) make sure the engine is warming up properly (mine did 17mpg with no thermostat in it) and the tyres haven't gone flat or even down a bit. check the timing, and that the vacuum advance thingy's...

    motor blew up

one other landy used a silicone bead on a head gasket from the factory. I'll give you only 1 guess as to which one. p.s. - a clue, they've got a bit of a reputation for head gasket issues, and the uprated replacement has NO silicone on it at all.
