Who's done what with their exhaust?

my V8 in the P6 does it by itself. before the posh leads went on you could hold it at 4.5K at the lights and it would pop and bang and light up the hedges in the dark..

(Not a Landy) - Someone's Pinched a K-Midget - keep your eyes and ears open.

Bad news from the K series powered midget camp: "James Mciver has his Midget stolen in London at 6am this morning registration HWC 254N. The saddest part is that James came out in the morning to drive to his wedding and noticed it was gone! It is a RB car with bumpers removed in British...

    Manual winch

I've got hold of a farking great winch off a gangway crane, was steam powered originally but I'm going for a big ratchet handle. It's got a drum about 8 inches in diameter, driven by a worm gear on the outside of one of the sides. It were free from a feller who used to work for Tyne gangways...

check for vacuum leaks as well.

it doesnt fit in the hole !

17 yr old on a turbo engine swap - might want to check insurance before too much spannering occurs... I had enough trouble & expense with my MG engine swap when I was 22.. as for fitting RR diffs - what do you want the thing for - lots of motorway work then go for em if not then don't. I...

    Unknown coolant hose connections..?

Yep, that'd do it. That may be the case - I've only seen P6/SD1 V8s with that bolt in. What Harleyman said - should be 2 exits on rad - the lower of the 2 (as in closest to the bottom of the rad) should be joined to the carb tower bleed, the upper one to the expansion tank. The pipe...

    Unknown coolant hose connections..?

Hi Here's an image of my V8 engine bay - it's in a P6 but the connections should be the same. 1) goes to radiator, it's the carb tower bleed and as V8jon says, is normally plugged up with crap. 2) goes through to the 'air' section of the manifold - you could put your servo in here...

Best possible MPG from a 3.5L Rover V8?

Fett's right. Even in an arguably more aerodynamic P6 I only get 23 on a long run, 17 round town.

    Setting up Carburettors

gunson colortune. plugs into spark plug hole and you can see the spark in it. available from halfrauds. tune it so it's bunsen blue in the combustion chamber. perfect for mixture setting.

    Twin SU HS6s on a 2.25 petrol

Got a single KIF 44 on my 2 1/4 petrol. Which is the same size as a HS6. 2 HS6 would be overkill and a bastid to build a manifold for. 2 HS6 can feed a 200 hp V8 and would make a 75 bhp engine a right bastid to set up. In my experience you match the hp to the carb, not the enigne size...

watch out 'cos the front 2 are longer.

    HT leads

they might say suppressed on the leads? mine do. in tiny writing. If so then you'd want non- suppressed plugs, which IIRC are the BP6ES (think the R in BP6ERS stands for resistive) I'm running BP6ES ans suppressed leads on the P6

    HT leads

I understood it to be like: Don't have plugs and leads supressed - too much resistance Either plugs OR leads supressed is OK non supressed both works but yer radio (and anyone elses who is next to you in a traffic jam) won't work. Which If you don't have a radio is pretty funny.

    Ballast resistor required?

My P6 came with a mallory twin point running a ballast resistor and normal ballasted coil If I were buying one then I'd be going pointsless though. But as it came with it...

    Inlet manifold mods

Swapping the SU inlet manifold on my P6 as the old one has the bleed pipe blocked beyond belief. Apart from matching the manifold to the gasket, is there anything else I can do to improve flow? Apparently throwing away the swirl devices helps, don't think I even have any of them... or is...

    Which v8 camshaft?

:D Same here. And my 3.5 has only done 19K miles from a £3.5K RPI extravaganza. (didn't stop them only sealing the fuel pump on with sealant and no gasket tho..) All the upgrades I do on the 3.5 will be transferable to the bigger engines when I decide I want one of them.

    Which v8 camshaft?

or even a 1.2 ton P6.... Internet is full of fit this fit that do this for hundreds of horsepowers, I don't want that, I want a torque monster. Which makes it a little more complex. Got the K series Midget for zipping about at 7K rpm, want the V8 for grunty monstering.

    Which v8 camshaft?

V-power all the time then :D

    Which v8 camshaft?

Reckon that will go too far, comp gaskets on a tin gasket head will take it down a bit low, can't remember the numbers but was around 8.6 ish (could have worked that out totally wrong though!!) Worked it out for potential supercharging. I'll get it by making the combustion chambers a bit...

    Which v8 camshaft?

Good plan Fett, but I'd be wary of pushing the compression that high 'cos IMO it's a bit too high, I could do without having to run Vpower/tesco99 Plus an additive. I could always retard it a bit more, but the power drops off a cliff and the economy goes down. I've picked up some 3.5 efi rangie...
