P38A Funny noise..... Ain't they all? Front hub?

Quite possibly. I know bearing noise can manifest itself in a few ways, but there's been no previous warning like whining or droning noises. Spinning the wheels just reveals a tight spot which is one of the discs which has warped, (Another job for the week) No excessive end float detected.. In...

P38A Funny noise..... Ain't they all? Front hub?

Now then fellow range Roverists. Having enjoyed a good couple of trouble free months ye olde Rangey has thrown a curved ball into the mix. There is a distinct, almost non metallic sounding noise coming from the front right wheel area. I appreciate that trying to diagnose a noise over the WWW is...

P38A Wheels changed.... For the better?

Removing the tints was a priority really. I had to drive up from Portsmouth with them and the only way to clearly see at junctions was to lower the windows. I found that using a generously petrol soaked rag on the residue, allow it to soak in for a couple of minutes and followed by a vigorous...

P38A Wheels changed.... For the better?

Rusty brackets. And to be honest I think I prefer the look as well as not getting crud on my trousers. Also got rid of the front window tints..... The upside is I no longer have a queue of crack heads waiting outside my front door. ;)

P38A Wheels changed.... For the better?

Changed the wheels over this morning. Gone are the 'pimp my ride' 20's and in their place a set of 18" rims from our old D3. Fortunately the Redbournes were a D3/L322 fitment so had the correct nuts and spigot rings. The D3 fill the arches quite well. I think I like the look. Definitely didn't...

P38A Here we go then.. And so it starts.

I'm so looking forward to doing all these things..... Not all at once though. ;) Having reliable cars where nothing goes wrong is fine, but very boring. :)

P38A Here we go then.. And so it starts.

Perfect Marty. Thanks. I shall have alook in the week. Certainly couldn't see any strays floating around anywhere but....... Opticians on Friday, if you get my drift

P38A Here we go then.. And so it starts.

OK. Found some new tubing the correct diameter and have put everything back as it ws. Only problem now is I can't for the life of me see where the vacuum tees off to? I thought looking on t'interweb that it might tee off to the brake system but can't find anything. Any clues please chaps? TIA...

Ah-ha... Excellent. That explains why that doesn't work. Thank you. :)

P38A Here we go then.. And so it starts.

Finally picked up my new toy yesterday. 240 mile trip home revealed a few minor things to sort out and a couple of big uns! I'll start seperate threads for them as I progress. In the meantime I was having a poke around engine compartment this morning and found this bad boy. I'm guessing it's...

P38A Well... Here we are again.

Not a problem. We're all in this together. I did notice from your signature that you also appear to be a phenomenal masochist. I also until recently possessed a Grand Cherokee and still have a veritable fleet of motorised two wheeled conveyances. We're all masochists I tell 'ee.

P38A Well... Here we are again.

Back again with another P38. After a brief spell with a very pretty but EAS problem plagued DSE I slunk off to the Disco 3 world! What a a mistake that was. Cost a fortune to MOT. So having had a serious rethink I've gone for the most sensible and cost effective alternative ............ A...

Welll it's gone now. How do you folk put up with them?

It was a '99 with low-ish mileage. 95K. Full service history too. Just goes to show. :D The Passat is a 'safe' choice. Not the most exciting or glamorous drive but solid and reliable and 50+ MPG. (I do like that) I've got the Jeep for leaping around the countryside and towing duties and in...

Welll it's gone now. How do you folk put up with them?

The EAS was an easy fix. Apparently it was just a case of clearing the error messages and resetting the EAS computer doo-dah ? It may well have been OK after that, but that's what I thought after the first glitch. It has to be said that it wasn't the most unreliable vehicle I've owned. That...

Welll it's gone now. How do you folk put up with them?

The P38 has gone. 3 breakdowns in as many months is taking the mick. First one was a total loss of electrical power. Easily sorted but inconvenient as it was at night in the middle of nowhere. I mean, it could've done it on the driveway in broad daylight! Second one was when the fuel line...

    ouple of Auto questions.

Too many years with my head stuck in engine bays I expect. :) My Jeep does the punchy stuff better power weight than the 4.6 108 BHP/Ton vs 101 but lacking in Torques 222 vs 280. Lazy is OK for now :D I will seek it out. :)

Exactly right. Be thankful you haven't got a series LR. :D
