    Anyone interested?

The problem with this sort of fabrication project is that everyone wants one, but doesn't want to pay for one. Nice little side income if you are prepared to do it properly though, so don't be put off.

    air suspention

I've done a couple of spring conversions, and I've got to say that the ride is improved with them, provided you don't just fit a cheap kit. We've done one for a customer where we were asked to fit a complete kit (front and rear including matching dampers), and this was absolutely fantastic...

silicone hose kits, are they worth the money?

Rubber hoses will break down over time with exposure to oil and heat, and the Td5 ones have a tendency to de-laminate internally and obstruct airflow. Silicon ones are fit and forget.

    Shocking!!!!

Insurers are no angels, but I suspect it is more down to the growing number of people who are not insuring their vehicles and the abnormally high cost of repairing a 4x4. Most of my suppliers have put up their prices by 6 - 10 percent since Christmas, so things are not going to get cheaper this...

    Disco 3

On a positive side, they do ride quite nicely, even with play in the lower ball joints, clattering front anti-roll bars and defective suspension bushes.:boxing:

P38 Rear air spring top stuck

We normally put a big lever bar in there and pry it out. Usually departs with a satisfying bang.

    sporadic water loss

Sniff tests don't work very well, at least our Sealey one doesn't except where the symptoms are obvious anyway. Usually the best plan is to pressure test it up to 1.5bar or so and see what happens. At least you can check that there is a problem and it may be visually obvious with some...

    Disco 3

That's true! Doing anything on it is impossible because everything else is in the way. I have heard of cams snapping on them. In fact I've just had a FoMoCo PAG 2.2 from a FL2 do the same thing on the fuel pump drive cam. Yea, like Juicey says avoid modern engines...

    Disco 3

100k vehicle need timing belt and pump belt change, so make sure you know the cost in advance, or negotiate that in the price. I find the very early models have more issues than the 06 or 07 models. Door locks, electrical, water ingress and bushes etc. Some early ones may have missed the...

    Any differences in TD5 engines??

The engine itself is OK, but some of the external pipework is different so you may need to be creative.

    maf help plz

No fault codes from the engine ECU? The MAF reading is low, but this may not be the MAF itself. It may be reading correctly, and the issue is further down the line. Hold revs at 3000 and note down the MAF live data reading. Are you sure the EGR side of things is OK? No leaking? With any...

    TD5 Oil Leak

I'm guessing you've looked under the car and seen fluid leaking at the bell housing inspection hole? If this is the case, it would more likely be oil leaking at the top of the engine at the rocker cover gasket, which always leaks at that point once the gasket goes hard. Also in that corner...

    VGT turbo on TD5

I think Gary (Alive Tuning) is testing a new VGT turbo. Are you getting a lack of power below 1800rpm? Is that the problem? Try disconnecting the MAF and try it again. If it gets better, then replace the MAF. Otherwise it could be a blocked cat or other issue.

    petrol in diesel Disco 4

The official way (as outlined via TOPIx) is to remove the tank content using an extraction pump, and emptying it from the filler neck. That's the easiest way without having to remove the tank.

    de cat exhausts

Can't help with that. I've never tried, but I doubt you'll get it to sound like a Td5. The stainless Alive Tuning system gives it some agression though. Anyhoo, I hear that LR intend to fit DPFs to the Defender in around 2012/13, so I guess that means you can't stay off road for days and...

Which V8 engine do i have?

It is, but I'd expect paperwork to show this has been done by someone who knows what they are doing. Freddie - 46D stamped there is the sign you have a 4.6 block.

    oil in intake

Yes, probably the crank case breather hasn't been changed as Mr Buckshot states. It needs changing every service, but if it hasn't, the inlet carbons and oils up until the damn thing chokes itself to death and oil exits the engine via the dip stick.. The EGR helps with the oily build-up as...

Which V8 engine do i have?

Not being funny Freddie, but he may have actually downgraded it from the 4.2 to 3.9... Have you not got any paperwork? The 4.6 is usually coil packed due to the later GEMS distributorless engine management, and the 4.6 is a crossbolted strengthened block. The 4.6 is a serpentine engine...
