Righty, Dakar seems to be 'road fit' so, CB seems to be working I will head to maccies at Junc 4 (Shirley) for @7:40. I'll leave CB on channel 20. Grab a coffee and head up M42.

If it's four bolts for the bumper then take it off. Otherwise the intercooler is only two bolts and jubilee clips I expect? ahh, 90 mins and you'll have it all done Oh, do we have an updated roll call for who is going?

take it off? I'm not familiar with defenders but can you not just remove the grill and if needs be nudge the rad back a smidge? Heres a tip - you'd always leave the engine running anyway when using a leccy winch. In truth winches draw more than a battery can ever give anyway. Plus...

Could just wire the winch to the main battery... Or just fit that 2nd batt and run it in parallel. Just ensure you have decent 80ish amp cable running across. It just means you'll use both at all times but will have double capacity.

And Il be at the maccies (shirley) which is Junc 4 M42 at @7:45, leaving at 7:50. Il trundle down M42 and then head off on A5. Il stick the CB on channel 20. BUT, not had chance to sort the aerial out yet so I cannot guarantee it'll be working. Maybe sat Il sort if if I get time.

Jason no, you have to remove the dizzy to do it properly Your axle breathers are above rocker cover height as standard anyway. With no snorkel there is zero chance of you heading that far in! BUT, a check of them as fitted at the axle would be a good idea In fact, as a reference, the...

In which case just dropping in a 2nd battery and wiring them up together is possibly better than a split charge kit, especially if you fit a chunky alternator. However, personally Id scrap the idea and fit a proper all singing all dancing odyssey battery. A winch will drain a standard full...

yes, I have, BUT, if it is a TDI have a look at the mount kit for a 2nd alternator. Much better way of doing it. Think Gwyn Lewis does them. If you fit a 2nd alternator then you stand a better chance of getting decent power to the winch.

The V8's aint as bad as you might think once you do a proper job of the waterproofing. The killer is the dizzy, nobody ever thinks to silicone the holes underneath, then, seal the cap on and install a breather in the cap. Smear inside leads both ends prior to refitting Brush on and...

chop the feed or earth wire and solder (or crimp) in a spade connector. 2 min job and would give you the opportunity just to disconnect it prior to dunking. Or, failing that, just don't worry about it!

Ok, well, presuming a trundle down the M42, how bout a maccies meet (Junc 4) at 7:40>7:55? Allow 30 mins to get to the main meet point at 08:30 and that should give enough time for the caffiene to kick in
