Have you confirmed she is actually getting hot, and that the guage isn't telling fibs? If not buy a temperature gun and confirm it. If she is hot....before worrying about head gasket are there any signs that any 'radweld' or other type of quick fix ****e has been put in her in the past? If so...

read your post one more time; A stretched cambelt or incorrect fuel pump timing would cause all the problems you are referring to - It sounds exactly like the engine to fuel pump timing is off
