    td4 boost valve / vnt

Great thread, it has problem, advice & most important the Solution & feedback, so many threads don't have any feedback, thanks ;) I suspect this problem is more common that people think because the actuator is mounted at 45 degrees & is open at one end, it gets full of mud ( well it does if you...

    Bearing noise

I had my VCU changed a few months ago for an OEM spare then had IRD & rear diff overhauled at the same place you had yours done near Doncaster, it was quite a bit noisier when I picked it up but didn't have time to do anything about it as we were setting off for the Pyrenees 2 days later, left...

TD4 Brake servo problem - no vacuum assistance

I think you need to get hold of a handheld vaccuum pump & test each section individually to see which section is leaking. Don't know if you can rent them from somewhere but a place like Machinemart might sell them

Knocking/Banging from under car when turning

Get your VCU changed, it's a racing certainty that's whats caused your rear diff to self destruct & it sounds to me like your IRD is knackered as well, caused by the same tight VCU. Oh and change your garage for one that knows what they are about. New (OEM) or recon VCU will cost between £300...

Part number for cruise control master on- off switch

Part number for cruise control master on- off switch

Hopo, was that using a new Cruise control unit or a used one, I'm trying to source a used one because they seem to be "plug & play" but haven't heard of anyone retrofitting a new one & it it working straight out of the box. Going to the Pyrenees in 2 weeks & cruise would be very welcome on the...

    Drive UK to South Africa.

Its already been done in a Freelander by a couple of guys recceing for the London to Capetown 2012 World Cup Rally. I wouldn't have a problem doing it in my Freelander, I think appart from punctures the only problem they had was with a front driveshaft which they knew was dodgy when they set...

New disc and pad swap, cant move wheel!

I thought about using "dimples" but they are too deep for dimples, maybe recesses...... Hadn't heard that, I thought it was a sure fire way of telling if they are pre or post 2000 but having said that they are Land Rover wheels so who knows !!. I've got 5 of the "with Dimples" & an...

New disc and pad swap, cant move wheel!

Yes, the little holes are between the wheel nut holes, these don't have them.

New disc and pad swap, cant move wheel!

I'm assuming you have the 5 spoke 16" wheels fitted, The design of these wheels was changed slightly in 2000 because of the bigger brakes fitted to the TD4. The only way you can tell by looking at them is that the post 2000 wheels have some small holes (they don't go all the way through) at the...

    What tyre pressure 235/75/16

That makes sense, thats the same size as I am running with 30mm spacers, they clear the struts ok but come very close to the rear of the front wheel arches when on about half lock, had to take my mud flaps off because they did rub on them, imho 225/75/16's are the biggest that can be fitted...

    What tyre pressure 235/75/16

Don't know about the pressures but how did you manage to fit those tyres on a Freelander without a bit of tin snipping ! they're almost 30" dia, what width spacers have you used ?.

    freelander 1 3dr roof tent

Have a look here, about 3/4 of the way down the page is a pic of a 3 door with a roof tent deployed, it looked fairly good actually, I remember he got it from Germany & it was a very reasonable price, that was in 2009 though. Past Events - M.A.D. Hippos Club

    freelander 1 wishbone

How do you mean "whack the side of the socket" ? will that release the taper ?, theres a new ball joint on the new wishbones so aren't too bothered if it damages the gaiter.

    freelander 1 wishbone

Looking at the pics I think the special tool is just a ball joint splitter to release the taper from the hub.

    freelander 1 wishbone

What a coincidence !!, just picked up 2 new front wishbones & the rear bushes & housings this afternoon. Like you I wondered why the hub has to be removed, both Haynes & LR Rave agree, the only thing I can see is that you cant get a socket & torque wrench on the ball joint nut when the new strut...
