Replaced intercooler hose, now wont start and oil light on

Could just be dirty or corroded connections on the heavy duty leads between the battery and the engine. Clean, grease and re-make all connections, especially the negative lead where it is bolted to the engine, it usually gets overlooked.

    AAARRRGGGHHHHH Black Smoke....Now what!!!

The bent-over pipe is the IRD breather tube up here to keep it dry when wading. Dont connect any other pipe to it as has been reported here recently.

    Fuel pump rip off

If the vehicle has two pumps (pre 02) then the primary pump is in the tank and the secondary one in the engine compartment. Post 02 F/Ls have only one pump near the osr wheel. I agree that a failed tank pump would cause the secondary pump to work harder since it would have to raise the fuel...

    something seized -but what ?

Jack both rear wheels clear of the ground with the handbrake off. If you can turn one wheel and the other turns in the opposite direction then the seizure is not in the back axle but somewhere forward of this, i.e VCU or IRD. If you cannot turn a wheel then one of the brakes is stuck on (or...

When AA tested current draw on startup........they could not find any assumed it was probably relay Glow plug operation is controlled by a temperature sensor. If the temperarure was not sufficiently low they would not be switched on. The RAC repprted the same on a friends Freebie. The sensor...

    rear brakes seized

Many reports of the pivot on the handbrake lever (within the drum) sticking. I had a problem with the retaing clip being too tight which prevented the springs moving the shoe over the backplate.

    VCU Temperature

Yes, that is normal. Time to worry if it is very hot, locked up all the time and loading the other transmission component, or cold when you have no rear wheel drive.

Didn't look at all your pictures until now. From the extent of the polishing I think that the crankshaft pulley has given up.

    Possible diff probelms HELP

Damaged bearing races do make a droning noise. Did you use a tube over the shaft to push on the inner race when fitting them, or did you push on the outer race? If the latter then you will have damaged the bearings during fitting them. SKF quote "under no circumstances should pressure be applied...

    New Freelander Feature - Rattle!

You could identify if the crankshaft pulley has debonded by the degree of polishing on its face, Follow Mark2's link to see pictures. On a good pulley the polishing extends for approx 5mm whereas a debonded one would show 10mm. The excess movement also wears the parts and spreads reddish-brown...
