    Discovery 300tdi HELP URGENTLY NEEDED

Yes, but its still a biggish job for a novice........Then it might need skimming, then there is running around for bits etc........if you've worked on vehicles, you know how sods law normally comes into force.......nothing is ever straight forward. I said it could be fixed, but it involves...

    Discovery 300tdi HELP URGENTLY NEEDED

Its easy if you know how, and know about the little things that'll catch you out, and you have the tools.......if not, its expensive (in labour, not really in parts), and its a biggish job just to knock out in an afternoon or something with someone helping or whatever........There are plenty of...

    Discovery 300tdi HELP URGENTLY NEEDED

Cheers Colin, no problem, shame it wasn't better news really. Just give us a shout if you need any more advice, especially if you start looking for a new one. That's what the forum is for. They might leave you alone when I tell them that you are really a 19 stone rugby playing, cigar...

    Discovery 300tdi HELP URGENTLY NEEDED

Had a look at the Disco earlier, and head gasket is gone. Its blowing exhaust gases out of the back and leaking water. System is pressurising when it warms up. Landylass is gonna be looking for another Disco now, so if anyone knows of a half decent one going, let her know, plus she has this...

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Sorry to hear about your alternator woes, Snowman......its bad enough when the parts supplier is only a couple of miles away......Must be a bummer waiting on stuff and having all that hassle........at least you know what you are doing. I kind of wish I just did the bearings on my original LR...

    Questions from US D2 owner

Discoverys are the cheapest entry level LR in the UK, where as Defenders are very expensive new, and hold their money well. But $40-$60 for a 15 year old Defender?!? You should look into sourcing left hand drive Defenders from Europe and bringing them into the US......If they are that rare...

    Head gasket gone/overheating

New thermostat, give it a good bleed and a short run, then flogged the old bitch up the motorway just to warm it up properly, and all good (Said that a few times in the last week). Fitted some new fuel leak-off hose and replaced the banjo copper washers on #4 injector.......and, dare I say it...

    LPG and Offroad

May as well just buy a TDI.....thats a lot of work for nothing.......unless your disco happens to be gold plated.

    Red battery light showing

Check with a voltmeter first, and just check the wires on the back of the alternator. The inside one that feeds the rev counter often comes loose and has a bad connection. A new one will be anywhere from £95-150. A genuine LR one is £400+ from a main dealer, so dont even go there. Cheapest...

    LPG and Offroad

There are many size/shape tanks on the market. Basically, your axles are by far the lowest point. If your cylinder is properly tucked into the chassis, its no more of a risk than damaging a normal fuel tank. Just make sure hoses are routed properly.

    LPG and Offroad

I had a classic (1983) Range Rover with LPG. Cylinder was in boot behind back seats. Nice tidy job, but you do lose some storage, thats all.

    Red battery light showing

As long as belt is ok, with no squealing etc, if you have a voltmeter, put it accross the battery terminals with the engine running. Should show around 14.5 volts. If not, your alternator is probably faulty. How are your lights working?

    Head gasket gone/overheating

Cheers JM, thanks for the quick-fire returns and advice as usual (and to robint) I won't run it now til its done. I'll use the bike tomorrow. I reckon the next thing to break will be the bonnet hinges......they must be nearly shagged out by now!

    Head gasket gone/overheating

I don't know what is ****ing me off more............keep having to work on the Disco, or all this f**king typing. Ran the Disco down the road with no thermostat.......took a while to get to temp (couldn't get it halfway).........top hose definately warmer, and the rad had an even heat all...

    Head gasket gone/overheating

Gave it a run, got it upto temp......top hose is warm, but not hot. Took out thermostat. I've dunked it into some boiling water, and there is no movement. It moves by forcing it by hand, but the bi-metallic opener might be no good from when it got red hot last week. I've put it from boiling...

    Head gasket gone/overheating

With the engine upto temp on a fast idle on the driveway, the top hose is only luke-warm to touch and squeezes easily. The rad feels warm on the nearside but cool on the offside........temp gauge is roughly hal-way. Cheers guys (saying that a lot lately)

    Head gasket gone/overheating

Well I'm not out of the woods yet with my F**king cursed Disco. I have ran it down the road no problem, hot air blasting from heater, all bled out. Got onto the motorway, watching the temp gauge, needle in the middle. I thought I would knock the hot air off, just to check, then after about...

    My Opinion of Paddock Spares

Nothing against Paddocks, or any other big mail order supplier, but I always try and use my local indy dealers. There are a few in and around Southampton, and most are pretty competitive for service parts etc.........Definately worth supporting small firms, and keeping them on your doorstep...
