    They can't be bad cars...

No I wouldn't tell them to change......but I would go into a pub for a pint, and if I asked for one and got jeered and humiliated for asking for one, I would feel a tad uncomfortable, and probably use another boozer in future. This whole thing is just food for thought.......I am not on some...

    They can't be bad cars...

Well, meaning exactly what I said in my original post. That 'some' members seem to let the forum down by being a tad too aggressive and overly sarcastic towards newer members. It's only my opinion, and the whole point of forums is to get a diverse range of opinions, so I expect a lot of...

    They can't be bad cars...

I'm totally with you there mate. I have recently joined the forum, after getting a Disco, and encountering a few problems where I needed some advice. I did loads of searching, but sometimes it just doesn't cover the problem specifically. Some of the long term members with a million posts...

Wil a 300tdi pass emmisions with a de cat

If you want more power/throttle response, tweak the pump..........it is very easy, with no real specialist tools needed. I just did mine, using this guide, and it made a big difference.......feels like a new motor. Just follow theses steps (be careful not to lose the little rubber segments...

Where to get LR parts on a Sunday?

Yes I tried Keith Gott, but not open sundays as mentioned. Also tried a couple of places who's websites say they are open sunday, but weren't. Don't really want to name and shame.

    fitting a new alternator

Just make sure when you reconnect the terminals that they are all clean and in good condition, you dont get them mixed up (writing wire colours and terminal markings down helps). There are 2 alternator types, and most suppliers will want the serial/part number of the old one, which is often...

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Well Snowman you were spot on! I fitted another new alternator tonight, and problem solved.......you just do not expect new parts to be faulty, so I was convinced it was something else........Thanks for your help. Auto electrics are a science on their own, and its good to get advice from...

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Thanks Snowman. Firstly I did the belt, and SQUEALING GONE!.....and bollocks, still the bouncing tacho, battery light fading in and out and flickering lights.......so checked the voltage across the battery on tickover and was getting a continuous fluctuation of 14-16 (ish) volts. It just...

Where to get LR parts on a Sunday?

I am in Southampton and I really struggled to find a LR or 4x4 specialist open sunday for parts. My local motor factors didn't stock what I wanted, so I just looked farther and farther afield, until a found a place open for parts. I may be wrong, and I hope someone proves me wrong, but the...

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Yes, its very smooth and quiet, no noise or snagging or anything. I am praying a new belt will stop the chirping/slipping, and that will sort the electrical issues

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Good point Dev, but I made sure of that when I fitted it. I replaced the spade terminal with a crimped eye, as it was a loose fit, so that should be a good positive connection. I managed to get hold of a new tensioner, and went bloody miles to get it (there is literally NO-ONE open for LR...

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Not sure on make, its a new exchange unit, from a local parts supplier. Hoe exactly do i check the charge rate? Is it with a voltmeter across the battery when engine running?

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

I squirted the belt with a tiny bit of WD40 and it stopped squealing, but still the same problem with lights etc(which I expected), so I know there is belt slippage. I will fit a new belt today and tensioner if I can get one. If that fails, I can only assume its a bad earth somewhere (no...

    300TDI newalternator problems? Please help!

Hi all, Just fitted a new alternator (correct 100A one), as old one was making a loud whining noise (bearings), but was working electrically ok. New one in, and wired up properly - all terminals clean, non corroded and tight and wires in right place. Had a couple of brittle wires and...

2" lift spring identification and fitment

Ok, looks like I have 2 sets of rear springs. Both are the same length and 18mm wire gauge. As previous members have said, the rears are the heavier duty springs, which explains the front sitting higher than it should. Got some correct front springs now (16mm)from where I got the secondhand...

    disco 300 tdi starting problem

Sounds like it could be losing fuel prime, and draining back to the tank. I've not had this on a LR, so dont know what to look for, but on other diesel vehicles i've owned, its been a lift pump or non return valve allowing fuel to syphon back.
