    Anyone live in Cheltenham?

These guys meet in Cheltenham: Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response Also, the local farmers get their equipment by way of Cirencester, so if the Forest doesn't meet your needs then you may want to try the other direction. I can get names of shops if you're inclined to check them out...

110 station wagon to 110 utility wagon

This is interesting - something I've pondered too, but always assumed wouldn't work (without having a good reason why, really)

We are talking about a Defender, right? :biggrin1:

    Land Rover Rear Seats

I couldn't find anything relevant on the MOT website, but it's best not to trust the Intarnets for an interpretation of law anyway. (Telling the police that some bloke online said it was OK doesn't tend to go down well...) I suggest calling VOSA: Contact Us

    overheating 3.5L v8

cheers Jon - I think there's a head gasket replacement in my future. Would love to do it myself, but don't have a buddy close enough. Still, when I take it into the garage, I think I'll camp out there for the day to watch (if he'll let me).

    overheating 3.5L v8

Anyone used (or heard of) these combustion leak testers? Supposedly used for checking head gasket for leaks. Tool Professional - Shop and Save! Found a couple videos online of folks using them...

    overheating 3.5L v8

Just took it off - very easy. The most interesting observation was that it had some whitish/pinkish gunk on it. (See pic) Could be plating-out of the aluminum block - but also could be a symptom of HGF. :( I've seen a chunk of stuff with the same color floating in the rad and it appears to...

    overheating 3.5L v8

James - checking temp by touch.. Just before ordering a new rad, I felt rad for temp. It was hotat the top 1/3 and cold across the bottom 1/3, with an even gradient across the middle 1/3. The inconsistency was my biggest reason for ordering a new one - although it was apparently unnecessary...

    overheating 3.5L v8

Nick - I think the low-pressure switch might be faulty because, when sypher stopped by, the oil was low, but the light wasn't on. He shorted a wire near the switch to check the dash warning light worked (it did) and suggested it might be worth putting in a new switch. James - I haven't ruled...

    overheating 3.5L v8

Thanks fanatic - I'm begrudgingly considering HGF. Sypher also suspects that's an increasingly likely candidate. I'm shopping around for a garage to do the work (I had one experience with Tim Fry and that was one too many). I'm in no rush for it (it's been 7 months already!) and I would *love*...

    Which rad for 3.5 V8?

Just for the record, I used part number ESR76 and it's identical to the original. I was disappointed it doesn't have a drain plug, but it fit without mods. I still wonder whether I could've used the newer rad (ESR203) and gotten something that easily fit AND had a drain plug, but I was skeered...

    overheating 3.5L v8

This Landy is my first attempt at learning to turn a wrench. It's trial and error (mostly error) so go easy on me... I got my 110 about a year ago and for the past 7-8 months I've been trying (and failing) to diagnose and fix an overheating problem. (OK, I have a newborn and a toddler - so...

    Which rad for 3.5 V8?

I don't know much about recoring, but I think I'll look into that as an alternative. I've got the number of a local shop that can do the job so I'll ask what they charge. My current rad is similar to what Harley described - top hose on passenger side and bottom hose on driver side with a...

    Which rad for 3.5 V8?

Rad is going and I want to replace it with a genuine part. Parts catalog says ESR76 is the original part, but it doesn't have a drain plug and .... ESR203 seems to be a newer, cheaper, similar part. Unfortunately I can't find anything saying ESR203 supersedes ESR76. Any thoughts? Contacted...

    Radiator cold spots?

Ah thanks. It does sound like a useful change. There's a brass bleeder plug on mine, but it doesn't have a bleeder.

    What Guage?

Another daft question here... I've seen voltmeters fitted before, but would someone kindly explain why they're useful? I.e. what do I gain by knowing there's currently 12.4V or 11.8V coursing thru my bus?

    Radiator cold spots?

MTM - what's this about plastic bungs and bleeder nipples? I don't recall seeing anything like that, but since my new rad hasn't arrived yet (been on order 3 weeks and counting!) there's still time to make improvements. Probably a daft question, but could you point me in the right direction?

    Carb balancer

Many thanks - I went off to read before asking daft questions. Huge thanks for the SU setup manual. I'll dig into that next!
