    buying a disco

:focus: I would say... If you're wanting cheap (fairly) reliable introduction to Land Rovering then go for a Disco. But be prepared for some rust and getting your hands dirty. And having to wade through banter on here to get some really useful advice. And if you're going to be doing much...

which diesel engine 200 or 300

Don't know too much about the differences between the engines / models, but... I bought a 300TDi about a year ago and the head gasket failed almost immediately. There was no way of telling when I bought it, apart from the heater not working. So get it up to temp and if its not blowing hot air...

Disco 300tdi, no heat and fluctuating temp gauge

If it is the head it's not too big a deal. I hadn't had a spanner in my hand for quite a few years and managed it in less than 8 hours total (if I merember right). And now I OWN the motor - it's not yours until you've been up to your elbows in Landy juice! ;) Where aboots in the country are ya?

Disco 300tdi, no heat and fluctuating temp gauge

If I remember right, getting the bottom hose off involves a bit of crawling around under the front of the car, or take the fan cowling off and depending on which way round the jubilee clip is on you can get to it that way. Still think you'll find it's the head gasket. Have a look at my...

Disco 300tdi, no heat and fluctuating temp gauge

Sounds like a problem I had when I first got my Discovery. I really wanted it NOT to be the head gasket so changed the stat, water pump and P gasket, flushed through the coolant and checked the micro bore pipes. In the end it was the head gasket. It wasn't too had a job, had it off in an...

Running the risk of straying orft the topic onto an old, much loved, theme... Haven't they all got the diff lock? And, back on topic. Semperit are Austrian so I'm guessing that they know aboot snow and ice. I would let you know what model but I canna be arsed to go outside. Hold on... where's...

    Snow Tyres...

I got a set of Semperit's on steel rims of eBay earlier this year for a score and they've been top notch in snow and ice and not too bad in the mud.
