Power steering for a Series 3 - help please

Absolutely; rules state direct like-for like replacement, un-modified chassis. Hack one about, whether you get the maker to do it, or whether you DIY, you would NOT have a qualifying chassis, and by the letter of the rules, SVA would deem it not the originally registered vehicle, demand a...

    Auto box overdrive??

I've skimmed through a lot of the thread, but there seem to be a few notionally related questions here, and a lot of in depth technical response that's sort of answering something a tad different.... Right; first off, the Torque Converter 'lock up' speed isn't road speed dependant, its engine...

    will this fail the mot

Right, problem is the disco steelie has a thicker boss, same as a wolf wheel. Measured these up the other day, and its quite significant, about three or four mm. I DOUBT an MOT Man would fail that on a series, as long as the wheels are secure, stud protrusion isn't ALWAYS the measure of...

    RRC Bleeding ABS Brakes. HELP!!!

YES! OK so we now have TWO fried webasto units......... What did I say to begin with...... it will do that unless you depressurise the system properly before bleeding, then bleed through the system following the procedure to the letter...... Paddocks & Craddocks have the Haynes as well...

To buy or not to buy...A classic gearbox problem!

take the box out, properly, I dont know what you think you are trying to achieve, but I doubt you will! Split the bell-housing from the engine, take it all out, and decide what to do next. Personally, I'd be minded to strip the box and recondition it, having taken it half way apart already...

    Rangy suspension

A poly-bush is a simple bit of injection moulded poly-eurathane... Its washing up bowl plastic, made like a washing up bowl.... in one shot, very cheaply. If they were in any way 'useful', why would Land-Rover go to the trouble of using a metalised rubber bush, which is infinitely hardert to...

    RRC Bleeding ABS Brakes. HELP!!!

TURN IT OFF AND DONT TOUCH ANYTHING! Go get the Haynes, of down-load the Rave, and READ the bleeding procedure carefully, and then try following it to the letter and HOPE you havent fried the booster. Before bleeding you need to depressurise it, and 'prime' it with fluid, or it will run dry...

    Lpg problem!! Help!!

I'm not familiar with fancy gas injection systems, but as I understand it they still employ an evaporator. Your SUPPOSED to be able to start from gas with a suqrter set up, I was lead to believe, however, fact that it switches to petrol as soon as you try putting it on load, I wonder whether...

    Preventing electrolytic corrosion...any ideas?

DON'T use stainless...... yes, I know, every-one does it, becouse stainless is shiney and dont go red..... But what makes it stainless is a high nickle content, whcih also makes it effoff hard. and they still 'sieze' even if they dont rust... at which point, they are a bloomin night-mare to...

    New LPG Conversion HELP

First of all, are you getting the engine properly up to temp before switching to gas? You say 'round town' so presumeably short hop work, and if the motor is cold, evaporator could be freezing, so the system isn't boiling the LPG to vapour, and consequently you are sucking neat liquid into the...

Help my high lift is stuck up!!!!

WTF are you doing changing a bludy wheel with a high-lift? Land Rover put a VERY VERY good bottle jack into land-rovers as standard; it has a two stage lift of around 12" and three ton working rating, and they provide two yards of jacking handle to help make it REALLY REALLY easy to lift...

    v8 rebuild

The bore is not a 'smooth' finish, its should have a fine, cross hatch honed finish, that oil will stick to. Over the years, burned oil on hot bores leaves a deposit of shilack, or a 'glaze' which oil doesn't stick to, and over which the piston rings will 'surf' letting oil past the rings into...

Squeal when i rev when cold

Could be that the water-pump bearings are on there way out; its normally the alternator causing a squuel like that, but water pump, when you blip the throttle can create a vacuum in the housing, that can make it 'stall' making the belt slip.
