    Happy Valley Wales

James R, God, (sorry!) Vince Cobley alone, Knows what your beef is! So far I'm up to page 7 of this thread; the only one you seem to have contributed to, and as far as I can tell, have driven as a customer with Protrax, once, on Happy Valley, taken objection to some-one critasising something...

    Maps

See advice on "Novice" thread. Right here, right now, what you want is a 'Mentor'; who should have decent marked maps. An OS or two, will just encourage you to go out exploring, possibly where you shouldn't, on trails that are NOT 'Status Confirmed' If you want the quick and easy route...

    addicted to v8's

she waited until I stuck it in the Rangie; climbed in, started it up, drove off, didn't come back Was worth EVERY hour of swearing and PENNY spent! (Mind, shame she took the Rangie with her!)

What would you expect to pay for a low mileage 3.5

you'll struggle to get that sort of money for it, I think. I was offered £2K for the red one I built, unheard, but only becouse of the build record and the pictures, bloke wasn't interested in what it went like, just what it looked like to go into a hot-rod kit. They will sell, but curiouse...

conversions for 76 model v8 classic

No the small block Chevvy is NOT a straight swap from a buic block! Its the engine Overfinch used in later conversions, but due to the torque the things had they had to go to a lot of trouble to stop them breaking stuff, and ultimately, knowing that the cars they fited them to were unlikely to...

    Sluggish V8

What do you mean you haven't run it on petrol yet? It shouldn't START unless you run it on petrol...... If it DOES start from cold on gas, then the gas ent set up right! Number One check. Number two; presuming you are starting on petrol, and comment means you have never driven it under load on...

Redex safe on Rangey with LPG

Yes, but pointless! If performance has dropped off enough on petrol for you to think it worth a shot, probably needs new squirters, and a bit of solvent through them wont do much. If they dont need replacing, then for the effect the stuff has, again not a great benefit to using it! But I' a...

Should i trust my dhse ?

Its a bloody Land-rover, worse a P38, dont ask silly bloody questions! You shouldn't trust one further than you can throw one..... but you drive it to work every day, risking the bosses wrath if it dont get you there........ So, whats the worst that can happen hoping it'll get you on...

    bit of help...

I understand your reasoning going with a new engine, and keeping the car, its the way my own mind would wander..... However coming back to cold harsh ecconomics, £2.5K buys you FIVE second hand engines..... or another P38! Yeah, they are a risk..... but then you took the risk to buy a...

    Technical help required

sounds like a 'lazy' water-pump, and/or wrong thermostat, though could equally be ignition and or mixture. Worth changing the water-pump as a precaution to eliminate that one from the list, they are only about £20, and if you are contientiouse, renew all the hoses and clips while you are about...

Your welcome, but good advice is easy to offer, and easy to forget or ignore.... I dont want to preach doom and gloom, or high and mighty ideals, I want you to go out there and have fun...... but safely, and with a healthy apreciation of the 'privilidge' we enjoy being able to still drive...

    Auto box overdrive??

Becouse when designing a car you have a whole shed load of compromises to decide on, and its a stupid one, but often 'silly' things like the lock out point are shifted away from optimum to suit standards or regulations. For example, fueling maps are often set lean at the exact engine speed...

Read what I wrote AGAIN. A said a CB ahead of ADDITIONAL recovery points; if you have, as a newbie OE towing eyes they should be good enough to be getting on with, especially if you use that other commodity I suggest packing 'common sense' and bridle between both towing eyes to halve the...

Right first 'essential' is a recovery buddy.... NEVER go laning alone, take two or more vehicles, and try and as a newbie, try and buddy-up with some-one with a bit of experience AND nouse. As for 'kit', to be honest for the stuff you ought to be sticking top as a newbie, you can 'get away'...

Power steering for a Series 3 - help please

As said, if you use the search facility, you'll find my evaluation of the things, including the development history I was a part of when they were being designed by Lucas ARD; and the 'number crunching' IS a valid comparitor, to show the huge gulf in the two systems capabilities.

Power steering for a Series 3 - help please

If you use the search function on here, theres a detail post on it, but essentially, series have recirculating ball steering not rack and pinion, and probably three or four times the weight on the front axle as anything originally intended to run the electric boost system. Power wise, you...

Power steering for a Series 3 - help please

doesn't matter whether you are doing a rebuild or not, a mod is a mod and any changes to the 'structural member' ie the chassis of a land-rover are deemed to be a Radical Alteration, and should be subjkect to SVA or RAV test.... and as said, we should be looking to use SVA to our advantage...
