You appear to have improved already. ;)

    newbie to series questions

Good point, it should always be mixed with diesel, never run on neat veg oil.

Project that hasnt been done before?

I think coils are the work of the devil so forget that idea for a start. The problem we keep coming back to is the lwt body, standard axles are too wide. It could be done with a hicap tub and I agree it would be different, but you would have to somehow fab up a rear bulkhead for the back of the...

    An 88 for the Mrs.

For some reason the nitromors reacted with the paint on the bumper...its being replaced anyway so not too worried. Got some van sides coming hopefully today.

Project that hasnt been done before?

A 109 or 110 tub would be too wide for a lwt chassis and body as a lwt is 4" narrower. You could just fabricate a rear tub I suppose. It would probably be better to forget the whole coiler thing and use a 109" chassis with narrowed outriggers, and build something like a 109" lwt. Or you could...

    newbie to series questions

2.25 diesels are slow and kinda noisy, but probably not as bad as people make out. Look out for seized/stiff suspension if it been sat around on the farm. New leaf springs are cheap enough but beware poor quality ones. The diesels, in my experience, seem to be either be brilliant, or utter...

    strange tyre wear

Its fairly normal for a series to have a slight lean outwards at the top of the tyres. but they should be pretty much parallel (if you imagine looking down from above them). OUter edge wear could point to it being overloaded on one side. Its not that odd for the passenger side front outer edge...

    is it me or.............?

A TD5 series? I hope thats some kind of sick joke. A series thats just a Defender with a series body/running gear etc etc is NOT a series - asthmatic engines, hard springs, mans steering...thats a REAL series. Sounds to me like you're doing a "chassis plate resto".

    s2 NOT 2A

If you want to keep it original why are you on about lengthening it and fitting a 110 tub? It will look cack with a 110 tub on as the spats will ruin it, or if you take them off you will have HUGE wheel arches. The lwb chassis is significantly different to the swb chassis, I suppose you could...

    An 88 for the Mrs.

Despite the annoying rain and grey sky, we have been working on Siegfried and after several attempts, we have managed to get the engine running: YouTube - Siegfried's engine running A few pictures of the workshop and me trying to scrape off some paint of Siegfried. It is almost...

    Oxfordshire snow...

Its a tough call...I *could* have spent all day (indeed, weekend) out receoving people, but getting food, getting warm and doing the things I originally set out to do had to eventually take priority. My mrs was freezing, and I had to get the doctors...its finding a balance I suppose. Of all the...

    Oxfordshire snow...

I know one nearish to Grove, going westwards from there which goes past the pay and play site as mentioned above. I don't know any others in that area though. The one at Rockley leads you down to the A420, it may have been my tracks, but someone had come in from the Rockley end before me but...

    Oxfordshire snow...

Yep, little sign of any gritters or ploughs ove the past couple of days. Not really sure what the council are upto. I live by a main road and that is still covered in snow, as are all of the side roads. The A40 was covered yesterday, saw nothing to suggest its been cleared yet. I get the feeling...

I do laning occasionally, but usually with a bunch of leafers. There are some lanes that are too narrow for a Defender. Trouble with Oxon is that there are only a handful of legal lanes, but there are some still open, in spite of what some would have us believe.

Isn't that the lane near Rockely? If so, we did the same one...I may have even seen you out and about but in fairness I wouldn't really spot a Disco...

    2a or 2a lightweight?

I think you mean 30mm narrower! The chassis is a little different, IIRC they have a bolt off gearbox x-member and a military back end with chunky bumperettes. They do cost a premium over a standard civvy 88 though, as there is a lot of demand in military vehicle fan circles. Engine and...
