Your symptoms are very similar to those I had with a previous vehicle (completely different engine, VW1.9tdi). Mine was a cracked head letting combustion gas into the the coolant and pressurising it.
You can't just throw a double DIN one in because the hole isn't double DIN.
My stereo's working fine (a 'hi line' R990) but I've toyed with the idea of changing it. I'd like more choice of music - on a long drive I'd rather have a single CD player in the head unit and 40 CDs in a case than 6...

Are you sure your existing ones are r17? Are they standard wheels? I thought it was either 16 or 18 on a d2 - almost all the tyre advice on here is for the sizes.
For the second time in a couple of weeks I've got a flat battery. I'm going to change the battery anyway as it looks too small to me - it's a 550CCA one in a TD5 but I want to rule out any issues before I bung a new one in.
Since I've had it (only a couple of months) it's always started really...
Dumb question... I assume the side running strips were just glued on and could be removed without damage?
If so I guess mine had them but they were removed?
Interesting point... I took mine into a LR specialist last week. He told me he very rarely sees them in the same colour as mine and there next to it was one virtually identical but with rubbing strips.
Well, I guess it depends if you see 18" as an 'upgrade'... The original build sheet has 16" wheels so they have been changed at some point after build.
I think they're the standard 18" wheel though, nothing too footballer/gangsta...
